But some individual workers might object for a variety of reasons.

I think if Qantas does it unilaterally it could put noses out of joint if the Government negotiates at a high level you would hope it would work.

That’s when Google returns to their campus after wfh since March 2020. Last time I talked to Master FM he said vaccination wasn’t compulsory (although he is fully vaccinated). It must be a recent development - probably with Delta rampaging.

Although the QLD CHO mandated this for nursing and midwifery students, for a private organisation like Qantas this is not something that they could take on lightly (or quickly).

There's issues like vaccine availability, timeframes, exemption processes etc. which don't make it any easier for a private enterprise. Not to mention liability, the flu vaccine (to my knowledge) really only has anaphylaxis as a serious adverse event, and there's a well established control for this. The adverse event for AZ, which realistically a good chunk of the staff at Qantas will only be able to get now, is far harder to control and mitigate.

An article I read indicated the US from September October (I guess their date for when everyone has had the chance), many government and private organizations are making mandatory vaccination for their employees (I think some employers will allow unvaccinated with weekly testing).

Given in the US vaccination is a polarized issue, the weekly testing is needed.

The fact the PM is not indicating exceptions yet, there might be hope we are going for 80%+ of those eligible. Modeling on vaccinations being discussed this week (if I heard the report correctly) at National Cabinet.

I would have liked at worst to have seen a more pragmatic approach of say 70% of 70+ fully vaccinated then give everyone left a few months to get vaccinated and once that has elapsed start to significantly open up. 80% of the adult population is an unrealistic target imo. It's fine to have an aspirational goal, but if we want to open up we need to be realistic.

39.5% of 70+ have second doses (NSW is just ahead of the national average at 40%), which is higher than the first dose percentage of 39.46% for 16+

80% of 75-79 year olds have had their first dose, the first age group to achieve this.

Every 5 year age group 45-49 and over has over 40% with first dose

Every 5 year age group 30-34 and over has over 1/6 with first dose

45-49 age group has over 25% fully vaccinated

When today's numbers come out tomorrow 35-39 should have over 20% with first dose.

NSW people vaccinated in Canberra appear to have been removed from our figures as % have dropped. However still very good.

over 70. 91.27% with a first jab 50.65% fully vaccinated.
Over 50. 77.86%. first. 28.53% fully vaccinated
over 16. 46.1 % first. 21.32% fully vaccinated

Just spoke to Master FM - yes compulsory vaccines and a pushed back start date for return to campus.

The number of people "intending to be vaccinated" has gone up to 77 per cent​

Greg Hunt says people spreading misinformation regarding vaccinations are clearly "losing the battle", as we see the rates of Australians "intending to be vaccinated" increasing.

Notwithstanding the logic of this there'd be bound to be someone who'd get their nose out of joint. On the other hand, I wouldn't want to share a coughpit with the unvaxxed, so there will be issues the other way too. It would be easy if all of the states just made it a condition of crossing the border.

Definitely agree, to most people one million would be enough incentive to get jabbed

The incentive to speed things up could be a draw twice a week (for example). With $1m prize per draw, split $500,000, $250,000, 2 x $50,000, 10 x $10,000 and 50 x $1,000.

1 entry for each confirmed vaccination. Followed up with obligatory photos of 'battlers' who won something & how it will make such a difference....

Given the cost of Sydney's half-pike with a twist lockdown (Olympic infection coming through) is now put at over $2 billion/week. $80 million or $200 million is less than a day's cost.

Then again building dedicated quarantine facilities to house 3,000 and fully fund their operation for 5 years is less than one week's lockdown cost - the cost/benefits do not seem to be considered.

After all, surplus separate fully self-contained units (as is the model) could then perhaps become Public housing (only for fully vaccinated of course), by Xmas 202Z after all the stranded Australians are home.

SIL is doing 50 jabs a day at the latest Adelaide hub. Loves the work because everyone is so happy and she’s quit her job at a major public hospital ED and vaccinating full time.
