The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

It'll be interesting to see what the LGA numbers look like when they are released later today.

VIC case numbers are still high and haven't been coming down the way they have in NSW. Hopefully that'll change with the vaccination levels going up.

Most now at reasonable levels. Though 10% of them will take another weekish for that second dose to be at full effect. It will be better when they are all at 80% second dose fully kicked in.

The hotspots LGA's, include the regional Latrobe, tend to have the lowest second dose rates.

In Vic about 1 in 3 of new cases are 19 or under.

0-9 cohort make up about 17% of new cases.

12-15 first/ second doses are 81.14%/ 53.72%

A lot of the hotspot LGAs have very good first dose rates which is a good leading indicator of what will happen with second doses.

A lot of the hotspot LGAs are above 90% first dose, some LGAs are in the 80s and a few are in the 70s still. So there needs to be a push in some of the LGAs with low first dose rates to get those first dose rates up.

Port Phillip and Yarra at less than 80% first dose are still probably at least about a month away from 80% fully vaccinated let alone getting any higher.

Melbourne numbers are low but that's probably at least partially driven by people leaving the cities and the population not being adjusted for that.

Port Philip and Yarra are also having their populations reviewed apparently, along with Melbourne and Moreland.

Yarra also has a good chunk of antivaxxers, or alternative lifeststylers, living there.

Yes City of Melbourne's actual current population will be less than the official population. So actual Vax rate will be higher. However it's average age is young..

Port Phillip has some religious cohorts keeping Vax rates lower.

Yes City of Melbourne

VIC’s mandates and vaccinated economy is so vast though that even their ‘lagging’ LGA’s are in the scheme of things incredibly well vaccinated. And the kids have gotten vaccinated so quickly as well.

Yes it is all heading in the right direction. It is just some cohorts are a bit slower.

Victoria are really pushing it hard.
Was just reading some emails in regards to my MCC membership and today they announced that for all cricket games at the MCG this summer only fully vaxxed can attend, no medical exceptions or any exemptions

That is utterly absurd.

They must have listened to Fauci et.al

There is no strong evidence that outdoor sporting events are superspreader events.
......et al

VIC 16+ fully vaccinated at 81.55% on the numbers released yesterday and 12-15 first dose at 81.53%. That would be within the margin of error one would think. So there could be a higher percentage of 12-15 year-olds with a first dose in VIC than 16+ fully vaccinated.

16+ first dose at over ninety percent.

12-15 do now have a higher first dose than 20-24 cohort. But lower second dose.

Cup weekend now over and so the vaccination rate should climb back somewhat again.

Up here on the Murray very few off-grid campers remain. Most left yesterday and more today. It is very peaceful now. :)

I was comparing the overall 16+ fully vaccinated in VIC with 12-15 first dose in VIC, not comparing 16+ first dose with 12-15 first dose.

Everyone 16+ has had plenty of time to get fully vaccinated, especially those 18+ who have had easily more than enough time to have AZ with a 12 week gap. However, 12-15 year-olds, the last to become eligible could have more with a first dose in VIC, than 16+ fully vaccinated in percentage terms.

It shows that vaccination rates are strong in 12-15 year-olds. Whilst they have a way to go to catch up on first doses they are doing very well.

With 5-11 year-olds now eligible to be vaccinated in the US, it's probably only a matter of time before it happens here too.

Perhaps the states could set a vaccine target, and once that's reached remove any mask mandate (if one remains) in schools.

Bloody heck. Now SA will move the goal posts again to open up to include 5-11 year olds.

I hope not. I was more thinking that things like a mask mandate in schools (if there is one) would become pretty pointless if a clear majority of students and all teachers are vaccinated.

The rate the 12-19’s got done (well in VIC and NSW) I’m sure they could knock the 5-11’a over very quickly if they actually tried.
