The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

SA hits 80% dd likely today. And hoping for a boost with this tiny little covid appearance. No community transmission - yet. Chemists are finally offering Pfizer booster so I've booked into one of those in 2 weeks time. A day after the 6 months. After two AZ. 90% over 12's on target by end of year.

In Vic I haven't seen chemist's offering Pfizer yet, not in my area at least.
Still have to go either GP or state run hub. No Issue for me anyway come Jan when I'm due.

Well I’ve decided to get my booster a month earlier than the 6m mark. Booked for next Tuesday

I'm planning at 22 weeks for booster/3rd Vaxx 'cause at 25 weeks I am booked for USA.

Lieutenant General John Frewen said more than 370,000 people out of an eligible 500,000 had already come forward for their booster.

Hopefully we will start seeing booster shots being reported separately in the Fed reports, whilst not compulsory atm some overseas jurisdictions are already changing their entry rules to ensure arrivals are fully vaxed and have had at least 1 dose (either 3nd or booster) in the last 6 months. Only a matter of time until booster will be required here to continue to be considered fully vaxed.

95+ has reached 90.1% fully vaccinated. Every age group 60-64 and up has gone past 90%.

We're very close to every age group 75+ being past 99% first dose as 95+ is at 98.9% first dose.

45-49 is at 89.8% first dose. Once that age group goes past 90% first dose, every age group 35-39 and up will be past 90% first dose.

I guess so. Seeing as how 2 x jabs are needed to be fully vaxed, based on what’s offered in Oz, anyway. Anything after that, I would call booster shots.

No.Those that are immunocompromised often have a third dose. Their 4th dose is usually the booster. As well if Moderna is used as a booster it is often a half dose.

That's an issue when booking but the SA Deputy CHO was saying they are really the same thing as many booking sites don't show as Booster.

Leading economist proposes Medicare hike for the unvaccinated​

One of Australia’s leading economists is urging the federal government to consider slugging unvaccinated people with higher Medicare fees to help repair the budget and pay for the pandemic’s ongoing toll on the healthcare system.

Independent economist Saul Eslake said there are many cases in which people are required to pay more due to choices they make affecting others and this should be applied to those who choose not to get the COVID-19 vaccine without an exemption.

Singapore has imposed rules forcing those who remain unvaccinated by choice, rather than for medical reasons, to pay their own medical bills for COVID-19 related treatment.

This idea was also backed by former NSW premier Bob Carr, who recently said Australia should follow this approach.

Bob, I would have thought Medicare would save a lot more money if it stops covering anyone who is overweight/obese last count it was nearly 70%. Compared with maybe 5-10% who won’t be Vaxxed. Also, Bob remember that the ones who end up in ICU with Vovid tend to also be obese, not just unvaxxed.

Having booster Pfizer dose today after two AZ just six months ago. I've downloaded all the certificates etc but does the booster shot override the first AZ entry and potentially look like I've had a mixed vaccine and therefore not approved in some countries?

No. The International certificate shows all 3 doses on it.

I was doing my mother act and was chatting to the vaccination center staff. It wasn’t as busy as I’d hoped. The staff said that more recently the people coming in were not as pleasant as they were pretty much now required to have the vax through work etc and not willing. Hopefully happier booster people will now start coming in and cheer them up.

That is interesting and really rather depressing about the discernible change for the worse in patient attitude. I too got my booster this morning and found it less busy than previous visits. I looked around at the few other patients and wondered which were there for boosters and which were the recalcitrants. I think I did my bit to be pleasant to the staff.

A vaccination question - if someone is admitted to hospital for an unrelated concern or emergency, and they ask - while under admittance at the hospital - to be vaccinated, can someone at the hospital source and administer a dose for them?

The background here is sad: A close friend's father-in-law is unvaccinated. He's senior, retired, I'm unsure of age, but does have some underlying conditions. The reason he's unvaccinated is because some of his middle-age kids are staunch anti-vaxxers; I'm talking loopy, top-shelf, conspiracy grade believers of all that is unbelievable, and they have selfishly threatened for lifelong turmoil in the family if the parents were ever to get vaccinated. They worry about this, and maybe being shut off from some of their grandkids, and just let it lie. The other middle-aged kids (who didn't 'do their own research') had the jabs with no issue, and they now rarely communicate with their anti-vaxxer siblings.

Something has happened with the father, and he has been admitted to hospital. The anti-vaxxer kids obviously can't visit, and so they want the vaccinated kids to deal with everything. The vaxxed kids know the father has always been on the fence about vaccination, and would rather be protected than not, so they want to try and talk him into doing it while in hospital, and then just not tell the others that it was done.

Unhappily not here in Tasmania.If an admitted patient wants to be vaccinated the only way is to go onto the Government website for covid vaccine bookings and choose the Hospital vaccine clinic to make a booking. Then make their own way to the clinic at the booked time to have their shot.They should not be accompanied by hospital staff.
My work around is that if the family can book a time with their GP or pharmac_ they can take their family member there if safe.If not the hospital will provide transport and an escort. Talk about stupidity.
