The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

GP Clinics are doing a great job with over half the doses delivered by them. Just imagine what they could do if they had access to more doses.

You would hope they would get more vaccine allocated to them once the current batch has been tested and released. CSL said they were now producing over 1 million doses a week and that it was being batch tested. That should add up to a lot extra to go to GPs.

I am continuing to proselytise for vaccination. Yesterday it was my hygienist, today a random lady at music tots. I usually start with “I was vaccinated last week”. People are interested and keen to know how it went, side effects, what information you were given. I think vaccination will grow, as more people know someone who has been vaccinated and it was all fine, lots of fence sitting at the moment.

Semi serious question. Can I get vaccinated in another state? I am 1b eligible (under 50] and can book an appointment in ACT and SA but no availability in VIC.

I actually think people waiting for GPs is what is slowing things down, the states should be directing people to the respiratory clinics and other mass vac sites locations in first instance, they have supply and are under utilised.

A super paranoid imuno compromised friend who is part of 1B told me last night still hasn't been vaccinated. I sent her a list of 4 places with same day appointments available prior to Easter (all within a 5 min drive of her home, she has a car and doenst work so can go anytime). She said her GP told her she needed to wait until the practice had supply (the appointment is 6 weeks away) as the clinics were only for workers, which is very wrong (obviously that GP wants the revenue for the appointment). I pointed out had she got jab 1 before Easter like my parents did (they are all over 70), she would be getting her second jab when now she will only be getting her first.

Given that people without a Medicare card can get a vaccination, I don't see any issues at all. People travel and likely many won't be able to make the same place for the follow up one. I'd sure do it if I was in a different state. As long as you meet current criteria.

It should not be an issue, I am 2A and can get AZ. Initially I was having difficulties getting an appointment in SA, the VIC covid Call Center advised I could get the jab in VIC. In the end I was able to get an appointment in SA however VIC remains plan B.

I’m in Melbourne.
Yesterday I tried to get an appointment via the 1800 call centre at the 4 clinics closest to me.
Was told ”all booked up for this week & next”.
So drove to Jeff’s Shed, parked underneath, walked in & didn’t have to wait at all. Total time on site approx 25 minutes, including the mandatory 15 min wait time post-needle.
As a bonus, it turns out that they cover your parking fee as well 🙂.

Good question. QLD'er down in VIC for work for at least the next month, and if the rollout accelerates l'd happily get the mRNA vaccine if it became available. l'm in the 2b group, so l might be dreaming.

Considering 2A can’t get Pfizer yet, I think you are dreaming. Only hope of 2B getting vaccinated soon is if after an initial surge of over-50s getting AZ demand for AZ plummets and AZ is opened up to 2Bs willing to take the risk.

I wouldn’t have thought you would have an issue. When we were vaccinated at the ACT surge centre last week, they did ask for our Medicare card, but there was no proof of residency. NSW residents can use Canberra’s hospitals, so I couldn’t see this would be any different. Pretty easy to get a Pfizer jab here if you are eligible and Garran runs appointments until 8:30 at night. You could fly up after work and back first thing the next morning :)

I live in the ACT and got my first jab in NSW. No questions asked... Group 1B.

As it turns out had I waited until this week I could have had the Pfizer jab today.I am still happy having had the AZ.Flu vaccine next week.

Same here. As a 1b in SA I got the AZ jab 3rd of April a few days before the announcement that Pfizer was the preferred vaccine for under 50s. Work colleagues (all 1b under 50s) started getting their Pfizer jabs in mid-April. I have no regrets whatsoever.

That is my plan B who would have thought that after 25 years of been the venue for car/ home/ 4x4 and caravan/boat shows then there are the Expo's/ Sexpo's and all the other po's. Jeff's Shed is finally doing what it was funded to be "a free facility that would provide benefit to all Melbournians and other Australians' or words to that affect.
