Well, this is it. After nearly a decade as a Platinum One (and 82 days spent on QF flights), my status this morning changed from brilliant ivory (with a green 'roo) to humbling stormy grey (with a green 'roo). Especially funny taking the first SYD-MEL flight on the first day of the rest of my life (booked as P1, flying as WP).
At the same time, there have been some lucky stars - April was probably one of the more ideal months to have status expiring given COVID's timing - I was originally tracking to lose P1 in Apr '20, so the last 4 years have been on borrowed time.
But will I really miss it? My travel has gone from weekly to quarterly, and with more kids in tow I've emptied the points account and schedule matters more than point flight availabilities. So I know I'll notice it less
I do farewell:

easier Classic Rewards during holiday/busy periods (3x J to the US over Christmas)
amazing support in case things go awry,
personal calls if I'm the last one to board
expensive champagne (and more recently curated gin)
and with the most sadness, my wife's WP status (especially painful as she now travels more than me)
All sufficient incentives for me to shift corporate and personal travel for a bit more money towards QF.
I could have given Qantas more, had lifetime platinum been in play... but earning 50,000 Virgin points on the weekly SYD-PER-SYD in J, PPS status on SQ, AA ExecPlat all became appealing... But now I'm 35,000 SC short of lifetime WP (instead of 3,000 had I put everything to QF by my calculations).
Please point me in the direction of the therapy group for former P1 members. Life does go on.... until the fall from WP to SG (with no more F lounge or HBA call centre). That's when it really gets real.
