The great points transfer to AAdvantage

I guess my question is: "Do JASA's credit to AA as they do QF?" If the answer is yes is it a case of booking a I normally do and then use my AA FF number?

In theory, it will depend of the booking class. At the cheapest level a JASA books as U, which is not listed on the AA earning table for QF. However, a more expensive JASA, when there is no U availability, should book into something like J or D. Which would earn.

I should get lifetime Gold this year with QF. After that, as LW has said in the first post, there's nothing else to achieve. Do I look toward AA as my future program?

I have been accepted to present a technical paper in LAS later this year, if I choose to accept the junket, this trip can be used to do my qualifying AA flights.

The new job gives me an AMEX and I have a Citibank Platinum which I can direct points to the AA account, but after this year who knows when I will go to the LOFAP again. It would mean holidaying there and frankly I can think of 1000 reasons Mrs. munitalP will put forward as to not holidaying there!

The next hurdle would be getting my QF flights recognised as AA flights - the process sounds like a pain in the cough, which I don't know if the company will handle well.

Food for thought...

Well I've just booked two J awards LAX-SYD for Xmas week.

So in the last 6 months I've booked:

2 x QF J awards LAX-AKL
1 x QF Y award LAX-SYD
1 x QF J upgrade SFO-SYD

3 x AA F 380 awards SYD-LAX
2 x AA J awards LAX-SYD
1 x AA J award MEL-YYZ
2 x AA J awards AKL-BNE

So I have to say that I'm a convert to AA when it comes to award value.

I still have a bit to go till LTS, but will reevaluate my program loyalty then. In the meantime, my QF flights and EDR/AMEX spend goes to QF.

Everything else to AA.

You should definitly be saying that, based on those award redemptions

Same as me :D (except I'm a bit to go before LTG) - but a 140SC JASA just helped:cool:.

Well I have you and likeminded AFF individuals to thank for that :)

I just wish I discovered AAdvantage earlier!

Yep.

If I was traveling to the US as regularly as I travel to the UK it would be a no brainer.

....

Im in that boat as well, however my travel in the immediate future except the conference in the US is all Europe (Germany) and Sweden.

So the redemption rate is GREAT, but to get it, I have to spend $$$ to travel to the LOTFAP to qualify each year, they will be getting toward peak fares as well as I will wait till the last minute to spend my money on a hope I will travel state side for work... are the cheaper redemptions worth it? I will maintain WP easily for the conceivable future with QF, so again, food for thought...

It's actually easier than that; any Saver or flexi economy fare, PE, business or First fare with a QF flight number (on any metal) will credit to AA.

(Awards are no supposed to, but things happen - see dr.ron's prior post.)

The red e-deal classes to avoid are Q, N and E.

With your travel patterns it should be a P.O.P!

I think I'm making some headway in understanding the AA points credit. (You'll have to forgive me I'm a halfwit at the best of times!)

If I have already booked travel using my QF FF# can I simply change the FF# in the booking to by brand new AA FF#? Is that how it works?

I guess the thing for me then to work out is getting status on an AA challenge. I have to go to Brazil either in June, seeming less likely now, or in August in September. There is a good chance I can do this in J so food for thought.

Once again many thanks for your patience and help. :)

It sometimes happens that if you are on a QF flight and upgrade using QF points whilst your mileage credit is going to AA that you end up with the EQM/EQP and COS bonus of the higher cabin.

I treat it as purely bonus and not expect it any way.

Firstly ensure the class you are booked in earns on AAdvantage for QF flight numbers. (i.e. A, F, C, D, I, J, R, T, W, Y, B, H, K, L, M, V, G, O, S)

If it does then you need to change your QFF number. When doing this for Qantas flights, do it as late as possible as your QFF WP is useful for better seating etc. Once done use www.checkmytrip.com to check the number is correctly entered.*

*There have been issues in the past when this has not been done properly. One way suggested has been to ask the agent to completely remove the QF number and not replace it.

Then use www.Qantas.com.yourbooking to enter the AA number.

Lindsay I thought it appropriate to once again highjack your thread. It was this thread that propelled me full time into the arms of Aadvantage.AA then helped a few months later with 2 J Aawards BNE-SEA-BNE when QFF could not do it.And then they upgraded us to F NRT-LAX on our Aaward.
This morning the counter officially ticked over-PTD now 2,000,076.Life time Platinum.

So thanks again Lindsay for putting the idea in my head and to all the others on AFF who have contributed so much information over the years.
Though mrsdrron sometimes thinks you have all turned me into a loyalty addict. She does enjoy the upgrades though.

Well done Dr Ron. My next goal is 2MM in my AAdvantage account to attain dual-OWS lifetime status, which should stand me in good stead just in case thise who believe in reincarnation just happen to be correct.

Please let us know the correspondence from AA acknowleging the achievement and if they make mention of Lifetime Platinum in their letter/email.

I am just over 1.5MM now.

Well done drron!

One more Europe trip and I'll be 1mm, but no international travel on the horizon. I hope the changes to Aadv are still a few months away!

Check into BA's earning on AA. I think if you book the BA codeshares on your QF flights to Europe you'll find the earning to be a little better....

Time to shift some more points Amex > SPG > AA, as the balance in Amex has hit critical mass (100K+)

Is the return still around 40% for transferring 100K+ points? I am just about to hit 200K Amex points again.
