I've looked at airline mile redemptions but always come up with ordinary to poor value. Like boomy and QF WP have said, I've hung on to mine in a bid to hopefully find those elusive HH bargains with hotel stays.

Depends what you want to do with them. It's only 120k points for 5 nights in Niseko for skiing. The stay normally costs around 300-400 a night so you get decent value.

Conrad Maldives is 380k for 5 nights and retails for at least $900 a night (rare sale), but generally around 1200 a night.

Not sure what 120k AA points can get you, but I tend to leave points where they are unless the rate is really good.

I am hoping to find that elusive bargain as well but as long as I keep travelling to Pattaya I am not likely to find that propertry for ~10,000 HHonors points and a few baht. :-|

I booked yesterday 5 nights for 380k in April :) the room was retailed for $1,000 per night.

I suppose I need to shop around. I have a few AA miles already and I was thinking that with my HH points added I can get an F return to Europe (160K).
I never seem to see any decent HH redemptions when I look, perhaps I need to look harder.

Oops, yes, 380k!
So you chose the Rangali, Boomy?

I'm sure you won't regret it.

Well, let's say that I secured the room for now ;) (cancellation policy is 30 days prior to arrival). It gives me some time to figure out the best way to get to Male...

As some know my Hilton stays are not frequent now so don't rack up many points.Have to say though I have still been able to find what I consider reasonable value-ie 1.5 cents value per point.Have booked several properties in the UK for 10000 points when they sell for ~ 100 GBP a night.Even the Hilton NRT is not bad at 10000 per night.
I would not transfer them to AA as I think that is quite a bit less than 1 cent value per point.I admit though I did transfer some when getting over the line for AA LTP before they made it near impossible.

Scoot now flys there , I have an impression in my head of the same sort of scenario as when JQ first touched down at HTI, and a plane load of folks went looking for the caravan park accommodation option to go with the cheap fares.

Just some general observations: I am now Gold (dropped from Diamond) and have still managed (with a little luck occasionally) to get EL access, and small to middling room upgrades.

My beef, minor as it is, as per the thread title, is program devaluations, as opposed to just keeping pace with inflation. The increase in nights/stays required to requalify for a level (I understand an increase in base points) is IMO a devaluation, and almost an admission by HH - "hey we're not capable of running our hotels/programs efficiently so we'll just up the fees" sort of thing. Bit like the banks.

That said, I'm not entirely unhappy with HH, though the earning/status opportunities in Oz are both rare and expensive compared with say the US.

Oh you cut deep......that's me! I don't think Scoot flies there themselves, from memory it's a Scoot/Tiger deal as of Feb this year.

I think your right re the tiger connection, which kind of makes it worse.
