The influence of #hashtag "Influencers"

I have a simple rule of thumb:

If the influencers only want the influence using only luxury brands then it’s not worth the expense

Has there ever been an influencer for Aldi?

I've seen some ads on AirTasker offering money to Facebook, Twitter etc influencers to promote certain products/businesses.

There was a show on Foxtel last week about the introduction of SQ's first class. It featured a 20yo 'influencer' who appears to travel the world on introductory flights and is supposedly a go to for airlines as they consider new premium product. 20. It showed where he lived. He doesn't hang with the rich kids of Kensington or Park Ave or wherever so I'm not sure who he's influencing. I'm sure it said he had 70,000 followers. I laughed at the time and said it'll be 70k aeroplane geeks.

It's such a bizarre concept but here's me on a couple of panels at work because I'm seen as an internal influencer. 55, grizzled and grey. What a hoot.

I said to hubby, he's young, good luck to him but he's living in mums basement and doesn't really seem to have an income. I can see him getting TV travel spot work when comments on airlines are needed, he was personable and well spoken.

Hopefully he'll one day replace the LHR 1st class greeter, that dude needs to go.

Agree on all points, especially that greeter. Omg!!

Yes - the average person trying to be an influencer is unlikely to run into an issue. But by the same token, the average person trying to be an influencer won't be getting the free stays/ products/ perks etc - or getting them for brands that have decent market penetration.

The world of reviews, use of influencers and use of social media by brands is a pretty complex area - I encounter it several times a week at least. Here is some of the cases on it: Misleading or Fake: Can You Trust Online Reviews? | LegalVision - Meriton got pinged (to bring it back to travel!)

Meriton has just been fined $3M for their bit of trickery. That might be enough to make other companies have a second thought about manipulating reviews. Meriton fined $3 million for tampering with TripAdvisor reviews

When looking at the Trip Advisor reviews I only look at the one or two star ones.If I feel they are not justified I will go on with my booking.
An interesting one was a boutique hotel we stayed at in the Lakes District.Nearly all the Americans gave poor reviews citing the arrogant manager. The brits loved it so we went.Turned out in the restaurant was a Portugese waiter called Manuel. The 2 of them put on a Fawlty Towers show most nights. We enjoyed it.

I'm sorry but all these "Influencers and Follows" remind me too much of my favourite Life of Brian film-clip. Just watched it again and it fits in so well the this day and age of social media; enjoy

Travel influencers who do freebies for comment are not sources I would consider as unbiased information.. Add to this journalists who do the free qantas travel for comment.

Every airline, cruise company, hotel, does this.....no need to single out QF on this one.

I believe that all the Americans made the mistake of mentioning the war ;)

Yeah. Saw that earlier. Interesting case - they were done for misleading and deceptive conduct under the Consumer Law. Basically they were manipulating the customer email addresses they passed on to TripAdvisor if they thought the customer was going to provide a negative review.

It’s certainly one step further than companies who just delete or hide negative reviews/ posts from their social media channels.
