I just had a look and there doesn't seem to be a thread specific to this so I though I'd start one to keep track of who does and who doesn't.
I'll also report that for the first time (for me), H-CNS has advised they will be applying the coffee tax. Of course they do have quite a reasonable self serve machine that's still complementary.

Auckland does not charge - confirmed in the last couple of weeks.

Cairns about a month ago was told there was a charge but as a regular I was "OK" - no charge. I usually have tea there so not a big deal.

Will test in Brisbane and HSW in the next few weeks.

Has anyone tested to see if those Hiltons that charge the tax also charge people paying the full cost of the buffet, such as someone off the street or a guest not entitled to it? That is, does the breakfast cost at these properties ordinarily entitle you to a free coffee?

I guess you all can drink tea instead!

As said above, Brisbane charging for coffee last week. Not sure about SYD as I've only had breakfasts in the Exec Lounge since the new rules came into play (although I think I can go back to glass now that I've gone up to Diamond?) so will check next week.
HSW did not charge me a few weeks ago, nor did AKL although I guess the NZ hotels could be under different directives?

I've always found the restaurant coffee, there, to be rather ordinary (maybe it's improved recently), certainly not as good as Glass, HSW or Salt. Although Salt has always waived the coffee charge for me at breakfast.

It's a crazy tax. I first heard about it around a year ago when Hilton SYD started charging it. Seems it is a cancerous growth and now appearing at many Australian Hiltons. Tell them to get stuffed, write a negative Tripadvisor review and complain to Hilton directly. It is ridiculous as a charge.

Why on earth would they offer a free buffet breakfast but charge for coffee? It's not as though drinking coffee with breakfast is outlandish.

Maybe I'm not thinking straight today, but what exactly is this "Coffee Tax" and what has prompted such an outrageous gouge on guests' pockets?????

Its the charge for a barista-made coffee, versus the pot of coffee they bring around...
