When the previous government was in power we were assailed continuously about the mistakes of the Rudd/Gillard government.

Pushka and Skyring amongst others, as I recall, took great delight in lambasting the government and anyone who sought to defend them.

Now we have given Prince Phillip a knighthood, and have seen a lamentable performance all round. What do we hear? Silence.

Must be the opposition's fault.

There was some discussion in the TOT thread yesterday. None of it was positive.

Possibly everyone is gobsmacked...

There is no pleasure in telling 5 year olds that there is no tooth fairy.

As this thread is about political preferences, its does not belong in the open discussion thread, so its moved to playground.

I'll have you know TA is the savior of Australia. I was told that on AFF. The $78 billion added to Australia's debt was entirely the fault of the last government. Entirely unforeseeable despite PEFO and MYEFOs. The last government forced them to make those decisions that have increased the debt, or added massive new spending. It is also clearly the fault of the last government that this government is directionless and decisionless at this middle point if their term in office. Not to mention that it is the last government's fault that the current government has to still blame the last government this far into the adults being in charge. Clearly it is Rudd and gillard's fault.

We'll all be rooned said Hanrahan if we don't vote in Abbott.

The savior is an utter dud and the silence is deafening.

I see no reason in naming members apart from a personal attack on their political views.

Perhaps the reason for the silence is that the members don't want to get involved in the mud slinging again perhaps?

Gobsmacked indeed.

Personally, the Coalition has been a disappointment. Abbott, Hockey and co have talked the talk but never walked the walk fiscally...

Though prefer Abbott to an Emily's Lister, union apparatchik, or closet communist leading the nation.

Yep, I recall TA saying "there will be no knighthoods under any government I lead"
that being said it was a dumb decision .

Or the total lack of comprehension as I posted this at 7.26am yesterday

I agree with you about Sir Angus.

The trouble is that by awarding Phillip the same honour it has diminished the honour rightly deserved to him.

I'm disgusted at what Abbott has done.

Maybe thread should be retitled "The sound of one theory crashing to the ground - smash!"

Thanks for singling me out. And thankyou to others who alerted me to your inappropriate mention of my name. You do realise that such posts can be sued for defamation, don't you?

Still some seemed to be happy to sling mud (at the country's duly elected leaders) when the shoe was on the other side of the grave.

But that's ok, push on with silencing one set of opinions. Clearly it is only right to have the right opinion voiced.

Nice soft issue. And your thoughts on the fiscal responsibility of significantly increasing our debt?

Good point. I recall TA saying he would fix the budget emergency in 12 months, once the adults are in charge. Does no longer saying budget emergency count?

I recall him saying stop the boats. I suppose stop talking about the boats is one answer.

Guess all up the adults aren't running Canberra yet.

Fair enough. I got stuck into Rudd and Gillard. Along with most Aussies when it came to a vote. I haven't said anything here because it hasn't come up, and I'm not a great participant at the moment anyway.

The Prince Phillip knighthood thing. Well, it's not something i would have done, and frankly it's hard to see why he did it. Puts him offside with the people, the party, his own Cabinet at a time when his leadership is under question.

And rightly so. I personally don't like the path he is taking us, towards greater inequality, making life harder for those on the bottom, and a lot of other things. Those are important items on the national agenda, I think.

Talking about essentially meaningless honours given to Prince Phillip (who already has five or six knighthoods, not to mention the prince and duke things) is like fretting over the colour of street signs in Edinburgh. It's no skin off my nose, no money out of my pocket, nothing I really need concern myself about.

If anyone thinks that we should be cheering on our favourite political party in this forum and lambasting those who sing the opposing song, well, that's not my game. I think politics in Australia is a matter of entrenched cronyism, nepotism, self-serving decision-making and blatant untruthfulness. Remember Gillard stoutly defending Craig Thomson, saying he had her complete confidence? She knew as well as he did it was a crock of bull and he'd been wasting union funds on his own personal pleasures, but she's hardly squeaky clean in that area.

The Greens could be a breath of fresh air, as the Democrats promised to be, but they are the worst of the lot. Rabid fundamentalists with no interest in the national economy, just promoting their own extreme agendas whatever the cost.

And I guess we'll be seeing the big parties making it harder for newcomers to get votes, especially in the Senate.

Where is the potential for good political leadership in this nation? Not with the big parties.

Now, getting back onto airlines, you know what I dislike, speaking of equality? I dislike the trend amongst airlines to make economy travel ever more cramped and mean, while expanding the premium product with more and more room and goodies. That may just reflect the increasing division of wealth amongst the world's air travellers, but to my mind, this is not a sustainable model, whether in the air or the wider world.

But that's ok, push on with silencing one set of opinions. Clearly it is only right to have the right opinion voiced.
Here we go again. Closing a thread denies both sides to an opinion, so try again. The vitriol seen discussing this and previous topics wasn't pleasant nor was it particularly in the spirit of AFF.

Nice soft issue? Pushka's response was in response to the OP, so again Pushka wasn't the one who originally raised the issue of the Knighthood in this thread.

or the reason for silence is no body likes to admit they were wrong :D
