The Joys of Travelling With Luggage & No Status

T2 broke its capacity years ago, at one point they couldn't even park Tiger at the terminal, SACL pushed them over to the REX standby bays and parked excess Airbus up on the corporate apron and towed them down when needed. Tiger took Sydney Airport to court and won under a competition act, and got their terminal space back.

I think you will find the reason behind the lack of new technology checkin systems at T2 sits in Sydney Airports court. They appear to be extremely difficult to deal with. Tiger also took them to court in regards to the lack of progress in getting the green light to upgrade to automatic checkin facilities.

Bit of of a joke really.

Re: VA Delays at SYD today

Having just returned from Mexico and the USA makes me thankful how easy it's to travel in Australia. There, scenes like these can be a daily occurrence. Out of LAX T2 there was a queue in a separate area to join the actual queue for check in. Interestingly out of LAX TB via the priority security screening queue they told us to keep all items in our bags, not to remove laptops, belts, liquids, shoes, etc unless told to do so. They also used the standard screening gates, not those full body scans; made the process very quick.

That last bit sounds like TSA Pre-Check screening. Sometimes they randomly allow everyone (non Pre-Check and non US citizens) to be screened this way. Happened to me once in Miami.

I find it a bit frustrating that VA at SYD/MEL still have this slow, manual process while at OOL they have an easy self-service bag drop (shared with TT).
Is the self service bag drop at OOL a recent addition?
