There have a been a few articles about this trip in various newspaper travel sections over the past month. Business Class is all sold out only whY remains.

I reckon one could book same itinerary on OW carriers in whY for much less.

The money here is not made on the airfare alone, but rather the exclusivity and all the side trips. I think I read somewhere that despite being in Y, the cabin will be so lightly loaded that Y pax will still be "relatively comfortable".

At two weeks, that's conservatively about $3600 per day (minimum, not Business Class). I know Captain's Choice tours are reputably not cheap, but I'm sure many here could make a fantastic experience for two weeks with that kind of money, and pocket the change, too.

It just seems odd to go to Colombo. If Karachi is avoided due to safety, I'm sure they could just skip it and head west.

Perhaps they are going to play up memories of the WW2 "Double Sunrise" flights? These flights did use the QANTAS name even with RAAF crew.

I have to admit I'm warming, in some cases, to guided tours. It is overall more expensive than going at it by yourself, but particularly in cities or towns with little public transport and safety might be a bit iffy (amongst other factors), it can be a good option.

Columbo airport was trashy when I was there. New building falling spart. But that was late 70s. Maybe downtown is better.

It sounds like a nice nostalgic trip/tour particularly for those old enough to remember when this was the normal route. I'd never consider it because I just can't see the "value" price-wise. (Anyway I missed the boat on J).

Symptomatic of an airline that is more focused on shrinking to irrelevance, spin/PR and becoming a big data/bank/insurance company than an actual airline flying people around. Taking a A333 out of service for 2 weeks typifies this thinking. I'm sure that if Qantas management got what they wanted they would make Qantas a banksurance loyalty company flying bizjets for CL members/politicians overseas and get rid of that pesky airline with its aircraft/passengers and employees.

Captain's Choice does 1 (or 2?) of these each year (not necessarily Kangaroo route but sometimes a RTW or the like, but fully catered / tours / etc., luxury travel at luxury prices). I remember they used to charter a QF B747 in the days.

Aren't these the ones that specifically target, how shall we say, the more elderly traveller? That they travel with a doctor also?
