The Kangaroo route

This has been going on for decades, this didn't just come out of nowhere - these charters have years of planning and the network will survive like it has over the past 30 odd years when an aircraft gets taken out for these incredible charters.
I think the contention above is not that the network won't survive when a charter like this happens. I think they are contending that an important aircraft is being used for a charter when it would be better in service to avoid an unwelcome equipment swap (e.g. A330 to a B737) or reserved for service to account for IRROPs (apparently because the A330s are becoming/are somewhat unreliable).

I don't doubt that the planning of this charter probably involved a process and considerations greater than 12 months.

In the end, it’s about the money. The charter would be quite profitable for an airline or else it wouldn’t be happening. There’s probably not much more to it really from the QF point of view.
