You're welcome.

I'm glad the event came off successfully, despite one no-show. I really enjoyed showing you this part of the outback and look forward to another town in the near future, yet to be decided. It was really enjoyable having you all there!

As was mentioned time and time again, spending money in Longreach helps the broader community as they struggle through their drought. I would like to share with you some of the figures from the weekend. In total, prepayments amounted to $3050, activities cost ~$2377 and all the money that was spent on breakfasts, lunches, groceries, alcohol and gift purchases in town can't be calculated by me, but I'm sure it all helped the local economy this weekend.

Finally, there was $101 leftover in the account at the end of the weekend, and a donation was made to the QFM in that amount.

Golly. Who was the no show?

......
When we were departing LRE after the Retro Roo charity ....... and those of us on the first wave were onboard, sipping Cosmos watching it all unfold in the heat as the air-con wasn't on !!
COSMOPOLITAN! That's what I meant in the LRE executive lounge, not a Mimosa! Facepalm!
Sorry Jess! No wonder I was confused!

Thanks Sam and Jessica! I'm glad I played a little role in QFlogging off 5 of the 6 QF bagpacks... But wait, for those lucky buyers I also threw in a QF cap, QF T-shirt and QF water bottle for absolutely QFREE!

I'm finally home from LRE. What a great event. I loved it. Thank you samh004 for all your efforts and JessicaTam for the premium lounge. Thanks to everyone that went for making it such an incredible weekend. I'm uploading images to a Google Photo album and have started fulling together a new video that covers the whole weekend, not just the trip up like the other video. Once they're done, I'll post links to both in this thread.

I've uploaded the photos from the weekend - see https://goo.gl/photos/GWT2eJBgK2zUWPno7

Still to upload are some of the raw video footage (parts of which will make it onto the compilation video I'm making also....

Great pictures and video dot - It certainly brings back memories for me, and also gives us a chance to live vicariously.

It was only five weeks ago i was there ... brings back some great memories. ..

New video - this one includes the rest of the weekend - Qantas Founders Museum, Dinner at the Museum, Starlight River Cruise, Stockmans Hall of Fame and Museum and flights too/from LRE.

Enjoy!

Also note that as I have copyrighted music on the video, I have kept it unlisted so the only way to get to the video is from this link. You wont be able to search on youtube for it.

Thankyou !!! I especially love the video of the Sunday show, my kids do too :D

This thread reminds me fondly of our trip to Lre in Oct last year

Well, we wont be going back to LRE unfortunately, but as I mentioned to a few at the event, I'll be looking at possible destinations for the second "Outback Do" to be held in a year or two.

Two years would be far too long. Lets not let it be more than an year away.

If you are looking for Outback suggestions, Undara lava tubes, south-west of Cairns, is a possible suggestion. It's a bit of a drive from CNS or TSV, and not quite airline-themed, though you can stay in a Railway carriage. Apart from visiting the lava tubes, Valley of Lagoons is nearby away for another day trip.

Accommodation - Undara: Australia's Accessible Outback

Funny you should mention Undara, as I've been talking to Kabanda about doing a trip out there, and also Winton to see the Dinosaur Stampede

The issue for me is researching a destination, doing the ground work before the trip and setting it all up so everyone can visit. As I am on a student budget, it's a little hard for me to just take off one weekend... despite a few years ago that working out just fine! Clearly, prices have risen.

I don't think the weekend has to be about flying, or rather, flying-related. However I do think the destination should be accessed (for the most part) with a plane. Most gatherings on this site are essentially FIFO and if I was organising the next Outback Do, I'd choose a destination with an airport nearby.

Contenders so far: Mildura, Dubbo, Charleville[SUP]1[/SUP], Kalgoorlie[SUP]2[/SUP] & Thursday Island.

[SUP]1.[/SUP] I think a destination outside of QLD is in order before focusing on QLD again, but I do have CTL pretty much sorted for a fun weekend. There's lots to do there, and even some connection to the early days of QANTAS.
[SUP]2.[/SUP] It would be awesome to visit KGI, however as it requires routing via PER it would be very costly for those in the East.

Having grown up in CTL I'm well over due for a visit. Count me in for that weekend.
