Rather than starting another trip report I will continue this thread, given the primary mode of transport is my continuing DONE4 ticket.
Equipment change - now rolling with a Nikon S210 after my five-year old Pentax disappeared. See

I had originally booked my DONE4 to coincide with a ski-trip in Vail, but the timing wasn't going to work and I had a wedding to attend in Long Island so I rerouted LAX-JFK-MIA-DFW-LAX-SYD so I could go to the wedding in NY and a few days in MIA. Made the changes over the phone with the round the world desk, but as they cannot accept non-US cards said I could make the payment at HNL or LAX (about 2 months away) – Note I have been subsequently been advised that the reissue rule has changed to require payment within seven days or the ticket will be cancelled.
Somewhat surprisingly I noted that I had been booked in First on a 3-class LAX-JFK plane
And also that I was in First on the two QF legs
but not the subsequent CX legs
Unfortunately work intervened so I had to shorten the back end of the visit (from JFK). I actually changed dates twice. On the first time, the First Class remained,
on the second time I remember the 'helpful' agent saying at the end, oh D class and demoting me back over all the flights including LAX-JFK which I wasn't changing
SYD-HNL JQ3 A330-202 VH-EBC Seat 4K *Class
So the trip started on a super-discounted $330 economy JQ ticket. 6Pm flight, I made it to the Airport at about 4pm. Huge slow moving queue, so I went to the Service Desk instead and $400 later I was in StarClass and in a line of 5 with the slowest check-in agent known to man (at least 5 min per pax).
With the US rules of the airline having to capture address details they should also have signs up to ensure people dont waste time opening their luggage to find the relevant details. In some subsequent banter with the check-in agent the ETSA information is meant to be pre-sent to the airlines (both JQ and QF) from June.
Immigration was empty – no-one in the public lanes, and about 6 in the crew lane, so no use for the APEC card.
Straight to the First Lounge, and I sat at the bar, two glasses of Veuve to start while I polished of the Salt & Pepper Squid. Then the Shiraz to go with the Signature Club Sandwich -- An awesome club sandwich, although very messy to eat, then a special dessert – a chocolate brownie with choc fudge and a glass of Noble One. Quick G&T, raid the papers and I was ready for Jetstsar.
Jetstar flight looked 80% full down the back but only 15/36 up the front. Had a G&T and then pecked on the Vegetarian Pumpkin Ravioli – actually OK. The other main meal choices didn't look that good.
Given I was doing a flying visit to NY, tried to sleep immediately to get my body clock in the zone.
Morning breakfast of a bacon & egg muffin was horrible (and served about 1.5hrs out of HNL). One bite and then just had the yoghurt.
Then 6 hrs to kill in Hawaii - first time there.
