For some the visit to ADL lasted until Monday night :o

I am now back in DRW, but staying at an inferior hotel due to some motor car drivers (and their support teams) supplementing the military in taking all the rooms at my usual property.

JT - I think the confusion is "Area GM" verses [property] "GM".

Mr J. L. (formerly of CNS) is the area GM for NT with 3-4 properties under his supervision.

Ms C.O. was the GM for Hilton Darwin until recently I think. It is now a new name, whom I have not met.

Always good to check out the cousins in the stable and see if they stack up if absolutely needed (like this trip!)

doesn't sound great...stayed at that DT previously - no dramas but not 'bells and whistles' either

Oh look - it is adequate. Clean. Bathroom seems recently renovated. It does fell like a motel, but at least it seems like a clean motel.

King room top floor. Apparently that is some kind of upgrade. No Suite availability later in the week. Breakfast is via a coupon which I was given on check in. Skipped breakfast this morning due to another engagement, will try for tomorrow.

They had run out of cookies when I checked in which was a bit pathetic. Might ask for one this evening.

Darwin is ridiculous in Dry season. The prices do not reflect the quality of the hotels. Of course, you can have a room for about $100 a night in the Wet.

Interestingly I suspect the pricing is one of the main reasons you see two predominant age groups in the tourist market.
18-25 Backpackers staying on Mitchell St
55+ Grey Nomads in the hotels.

The 26-54 age bracket are priced out of the market and go to Thailand or Bali instead, given a week in either locale is approximately half the cost.

Which DT? The PINK one? ;) BTW, I also heard about the many bottles of wine consumed at H-ADL after I left!

The [off] white one.

Yes, there were 4, which was perhaps excessive given there were only 3 at dinner. At $129 a piece, they weren't particularly cheap either. I blame boomy.

When I arrived at the "Poolside restaurant" the clerk had a clipboard printout of all the guests (like any normal hotel) and looked me up there anyway. Therefore the coupon seems to be a complete waste of time (and wallet space).

What was actually really pleasing was the clerk asked me if I would like any barista coffee, because "as a diamond member you are entitled to one complementary barista coffee"... No coffee tax, and proactive to offer the benefit. That was great to see given so many other properties in Australia have the "coffee tax" and/or try to sneak it onto the bill.

The breakfast spread was fairly standard. Nothing special, although the open kitchen does allow you to target certain hot items which are "fresh" (e.g. straight from the pan, rather than 2 years in a bain marie).

A bit late to post.

I suppose you have no need to do mattress runs, given that property is your favourite and you'll already have Diamond re-qual via nights....but not heading away for the weekend?

I am not sure I would call it my "favourite property"... But it is my preferred hotel in Darwin, and probably the best hotel up here. As a HH DIA the free breakfast, and free drinks / canapes in the exec lounge are good benefits.

Yeah, I am on target to requal top tier on nights for 2 chains this year.

I theoretically could have flown home (or elsewhere), but it was cheaper for my client and less fatigue for me to stay up here.
