Mods, if this is considered Playground material then please move it there - thanks.

I had a moment of curiosity last night and started listing the AFFers I have met in person. I got to forty-something without trying, and a brief browse of a few threads got me up to around sixty (which came as something of a surprise). And I know there are more. It is confined to people who do, or once did, post on AFF, but I did not necessarily meet them at AFF functions - many were at FT functions (people with dual citizenships if you like :)).

If I published the list I know there would be some on it who would go tuapeka who? and have no recollection of meeting me. I'm sure there will be some who wished they hadn't met me . And there could be some I have missed.

I'm sure there will be AFFers who have met many more, and equally sure there are AFFers out there who have never met another AFFer, and have no desire whatsoever to do so. Which is fine, each to their own.

I do think it emphasises the 'social' side of the board, and I have to say I have enjoyed meeting AFFers (and FTers for that matter) over the years, often flying somewhere to do so, all driven by a common interest in things aviation.

....but I expect to meet quite a few at the Melbourne Xmas event.

I'm always a little nervous at meeting folk with whom my only interaction has been via a forum. (Oh God I have just reread that and I sound like a real weirdo!!! I tend to keep myself to myself is what I mean.)

I do worry about meet ups though. I know there are a lot of flyers here who really enjoy the whole flying malarkey, for me it is an occupational hazard made a little more bearable by tips here on AFF.

Judging by their user name, which is reasonably unique, I believe it could be one. But it wasn't because of AFF that we met. I haven't contacted the user to see if it is them however.

I have just quickly compiled a list and I get just over 60 names.

I am sure there are few that I have missed from various gatherings and Ozfest.

Don't keep track of the number. But easily 40, probably well over the 60 mark if I thought about it for a while.

Very hard to keep track of real names/AFF handles though! Having a poor memory for faces&names doesn't help ether!

Also, the strange thing is that I'm not particularly outgoing, and like being anonymous as much as possible. Still trying to compute how that ties in!

A few conversations with AFF'ers have been awkward, and there are a couple of people I just don't "mesh" with - but overall, I find that normally people are easy going and good to chat with.

My count is in the order of about 30-40, with the Rockpool 16 forming a good part of that number. I could try and reel off the names, but I know I'd forget someone and unintentionally offend them in the process.

Well if it's any consolation Tony, you are a bit weird

My total stands at 84, first I went through the off topic thread click on the number of posts which then ranks all the members by number of posts, that got me to 72, then I checked to see who haven't posted in the off topic thread and ended up with 84.

We have had a few AFF Brisbane drinks night with one topping 18 members so a good turn out.

7 years on AFF I guess there is a good chance to meet a few people, I just met 2 in the QF/BA First lounge on Tuesday night.

An interesting list is how many AFF members have you met while overseas, and that list stands at 12, or how many AFF members phone numbers do you have, over 30.

Phone numbers is four, members met overseas is one (due to the fact I only fly o/s once a year generally).

18 AFFers for me and hopefully more at the upcoming Christmas Drinks in MEL :) 15 at the QFF Lunch, the delightful dr and mrsdrron at the SYD J Lounge, and didn't quite meet, but did see Straitman at the HSW ( too shy to introduce myself :o )

About 40 or so AFFers (incl admin and the 5 moderators) but if you count FTers who are not also AFFers probably 50-60 all up....to be honest, impossible to remember and count all of them:oops:
