And so it begins... myself, malmacdowall, Travel Guru, pshepvic and oz_mark are the lucky five selected to attend the Velocity partnership announcement, and coming from Perth means I'm the first to leave. I guess I never considered the logistics of this trip before entering. I'm on the red-eye to get to Sydney in time for lunch - I haven't taken this flight before and it isn't really something I'm looking forward to, sleepwise.

It was the Queen's birthday in the rest of the country, but my birthday here in WA, so I've eaten too much, had most of a free Citibank bottle of wine, and earned some QFF points and Myer One points at the same time. Hopefully the DJ A330 business seats are good for sleeping.

We'll be updating this thread throughout the day, and I'll be back here upon arrival in SYD where jdevereux3 has kindly offered to guest me into The Lounge.

Because I'm such a kind and considerate person

Congratulations guys.

Don't forget we want lots of pics.

Enjoy the experience.

Morning all! At MEL now for my flight, just enjoying a latte in the lounge.

Also keep an eye out for the #VirginAusAFF tag on Twitter. (My Twitter stock is going to skyrocket today!)

Well after an early start (yes I'm an overplanner and will be at the airport 2hrs before my flight ), finally arriving a long term parking and looking forward to a coffee in The Lounge .... And maybe some of thier little cookies ... Mmmm addicted to the little cookies... Will see if pshepvic is still thier before Oz mark arrives ...

Not sure if the flights will be dalyed today due to fog or ash... The fun of the airport ... Excited about the day, meeting other AFFs and reporting back ...

I've already boarded and am ready to go! Sorry I missed you there but I'll see you in Sydney!

My trip started last night with a $1.70 bus ride to Perth Airport.

The security people were grumpy because people don't understand how to remove aerosols from their bags.

Spent about an hour in the Lounge, and then boarded the A330.

I was seated in 3B, but with nobody next to me moved to 3A. The load in business was 10/29, including 2 AFF members! The service was fantastic, the only little thing I would suggest is that it would be good to distribute bottles of water for a night flight. The seats seemed uncomfortable, the headrest is slightly too low and can't be raised, which made sitting uncomfortable to me. Fully reclined it was slightly better.

Having said that, I had a bit of a sleep and then looked at my watch, 3.5 hours had passed and we were about to start our descent. So the seats can't be too bad after all. :) I'll post a more complete report for the return flight; for this one I was happy to sleep.

Now I'm in the Lounge, waiting for further instructions. My phone has decided it doesn't like the internet anymore so I'm not sure how many updates I'll post throughout the day, but I'm sure between the five of us coverage should be adequate.

Caught up with oz_mark in the lounge who is looking forward to a great day! Hope you all enjoy yourselves today, its nice to see some AFF members being rewarded for their contributions!

Have a fantastic time guys, looking forward to hearing about the announcement! My business could certainly be swayed yet... :)

Getting impatient now - want to know what's happening? Are you in a media blackout, or just enjoying yourselves too much! :)

I'm starting to think that it will be about the new tie up with DL,Virgin made an official announcement
to the ASX this morning about final DOT approval for the venture.
Interestingly, Australian Business Traveller appear to be in a media briefing or something and sent this tweet:

Big news coming today and tomorrow for #VirginAustralia #Velocity - we like what we've heard so far, and think you will too! #frequentflyer
So is the announcement to do with the FF program? If so, you'd have to assume it's the details of the new plat level and/or the anticipated full relaunch/rebranding of Velocity. (edit: or the Fly Buys thing? Who knows)

(Can't post links, it's on the AusBT twitter account)

Yeah damn it! Some of us are struggling to stay awake here! [in Canada]

One of the tweets with the #virginausaff hashtag was interesting...

@peteshep: "Something odd is going on. And I can't tell you about it! Stay tuned for more later! #virginausaff"
