Guys I don't expect that our 5 AFF reps will be saying a thing about what they learned at the free lunch (and we all know there is no such thing as a free lunch, let alone a free return Virgin ticket and lunch!!) until Virgin says it first. :-|

That use to be a really lame joke they had onboard. "Anybody who is caught smoking will be asked to step outside." Those were definatly the LCC days!

How fickle we are. We've gone from fans to accusing VA of trying to murder everyone in about 1/2 an hour of news blackout.

Hey look. I love a good sense of suspense as much as the next guy but if i'm staying up past midnight to hear some folks live report about an announcement i will be very unhappy to discover at well past my bedtime that they've signed a bloody non disclosure agreement and they're not allowed to tell us anything. Just saying.

My point was that DJ would expect those that they shared exclusive information with would be required to keep it to themselves until DJ did the announcement. I mean DJ could alter that they were thinking about doing based on the AFF 5 discussions. So it would be 100% reasonable for the AFF 5 to have legally zipped lips as what they discussed and learned could possible not occur and if they disclosed such information, it could harm DJ.

So if you hear anything from the AFF 5, it will be with DJ permission. Personally I do not expect to hear anything until DJ does the announcement.

My comment about sleeping with the fishes was not to imply in any way that DJ would harm the AFF 5. Just to highlight that DJ might consider the matter under discussion as being highly sensitive and for us to not expect the AFF 5 to say anything.

We need to respect both DJ and the AFF 5 obligations here and not to pester the AFF 5 for information.

Platinum 1 is announced but no details given and people are annoyed, VA keep saying wait and we will tell you soon and everyone thinks they are savvy and "new media" trendy.

I don't understand. Others may have different opinions but I see no difference in the situation, currently we know very little about the new status levels for both airlines.

Perhaps i've misunderstood what's going on (only been half paying attention as i'm overseas).

I thought the AFFers were being invited to an "announcement" of a new partnership in the expectation that they would be part of promoting it here, on twitter and elsewhere -- presumably when the media embargo lifts which i assumed to be later today.

However i could have it back to front and they may actually be that they are being invited to some kind of focus group thing in which case you would expect them to hold their tounges.

But, inviting them to live report on attending an event they can't share the details of for days doesn't strike me as a good strategy.

When the announcement of the 'competition' was first made, I recall saying to Liam that I would expect that any winner would have to sign a NDA - only logical - I would have arranged one too.

We are all waiting (im)patiently... and I am sure we will be rewarded soon...

Just hope it isn't a let-down by being a small-ish press release... I want some big news

If you have read my comments about how QF handled this on the AAF Qantas forum, you will see I'm no fan of that they did. However the AFF 5 accepted a free return flight and free lunch with DJ to discuss SOMETHING. It is DJ's money that bought the rights to the discussion and until DJ decide to release it or not, it is DJ's call and not the call of the AFF 5.

If we do not respect DJ's right to to do this, then it may very well be the last time DJ does this and I for one would suggest that is not a desired end result. So lets just wait for DJ to make the call and the announcement. At least they went public and asked for AFF members to give them face to face feedback. I have never, in my time on AFF, seen QF do that and I respect for DJ in doing what they have done.

I do see a hell of a lot difference in the way the two airlines have handled these issues. VA have been embarked on a long process of improving their product and have sought feedback and offered incremental bits and pieces along the way. Not perfect and there's been some bits i've liked more than others but its a long process and it inevitably takes time.

QF have been embarking on round and after round of "enhancements" that are little more than thinly veiled penny pinching and in many cases the withdrawl of benefits previously offered. So when, in that context, QF announce something new coming soon, people rightly assume "what am i going to lose out on this time?" whereas virtually every round of recent developments from has resulted in new improvements and benefits for most people here.

Surely that's a way to engender some enthusiasm?
