The Pinot Noir & Grenache Thread

Feels like as soon as I miss opening a notification I miss out on so many posts.

Place of changing winds is so tempting and the philosophy/viticulture sounds really cool... but the more I lurk on here the more my price bracket for buying seems to creep!

@qaz is this your secret plan to fuel the economy, get us all to spend more...

besides chardonnay, the 2019 Dappled Single-Vineyard Pinot Noir is $38.25 delivered direct using SENDWINE for 15% off - ends today (the sold-out standard Appellation blend was rated CM(WF)95)

Blackhearts also have a Place Of Changing Winds Discovery 3pk for $180 delivered ($60/bt) - 3 left:
  • 2019 Place of Changing Winds Between Two Mountains Pinot Noir
  • 2019 Place of Changing Winds Clos de la Connerie Pinot Noir
  • 2019 Place of Changing Winds Tradition Pinot Noir Syrah
however the best value pack I've come across - better than the mailing list ones - is Place of Changing Winds Mixed 6pk $440 delivered ($73.33/bt) @ Waters Wine - 2 left:
  • 1 x Place of Changing Winds High Density Pinot Noir 2019
  • 1 x Place of Changing Winds Clos de la Connerie 2019

Similar to those with Cape Mentelle and Moet & Chandon, Vintec are having a Cloudy Bay @Home tasting on Wednesday 23rd September - the $105 pack of Cloudy Bay 2018 (Marlborough) and Te Wahi 2016 (Central Otago), plus $15 delivery (free with $200+ orders), also includes access to Maison One:

Hoddles Creek 2019 has just been rated 94+pts by Gary Walsh, the highest ever vintage on Winefront - $22 @ Prince Wine Store & Summer Hill (price match @ Different Drop)

$23 in 6pks @ Langton's

yes, i've ordered the single-vineyards as well - for those interested who missed out, they're still available here

Hoddles is also $22 in a case of 6 at Summer Hill Wine Store - I couldn't resist a bargain but I personally think 94+ is a bit high for this (maybe with more time?).

It's definitely romping at $22, but it's not a bottle I'm particularly keen to eager to revisit quickly and I prefer other drops as quaffers.

Care to share some Pinot quaffers that you like to drink?

We have quite a few of the Stonier Jimjoca at home, which isn't too far off in pricing from cellarone. I also liked the DCB Pinot that doesn't score as well as the Hoddles, but it's easy drinking.

We probably haven't come across too many quaffing pinots, as I'd rather pay a bit more for something we enjoy and pinots seem a bit experience in general - grenache seems to be better value for mine. Our quaffers are probably from Unico Zelo (I love truffle hound) and Luke Lambert Crudo.

I've also been enjoying some SC Pannell courtesy of another sale @qaz posted on Kent St Cellars (albeit I only had 30mins to order and wish I got other stuff).

All of this said, we are hardly experienced drinkers and I'm really just trying to broaden my palate at the moment.

Gah, second time I'm typing this out - not sure why the response randomly disappears on my phone.

For those who are interested it appears the Bay of Fires Pinot Noir 2019 new release is available on Cellar One for $38.33 pb - limit of one case per customer. Search and you should be able to find it.

Last vintage received 99 JH points and promptly sold out with this year's release being "superior" according to the winemaker.

of course, cynically a winemaker would say that, however:

Well the 3 VIP offers seem hidden from view until you search specifically for them.

2018 Spinifex Moppa Grenache - JH98, HH93, NS92 - $27.20 @ The Wine Collective (20% discount automatically applied in cart, plus $9.95 delivery, less 8.8% Cashrewards and $20 voucher) - ends today - thanks/credit to @beefarmer - price match @ Waters Wine or Different Drop

Good colour, particularly given its varietal makeup. The perfumed bouquet of red flowers, spices and raspberries is comprehensively upstaged by the exquisite palate, with its array of red fruits twinkling through to the lingering, mouthwatering aftertaste. 14.5% alc, screwcap 98 points, drink to 2033, $35

There is a 2008 Nuits-St-Georges (albeit one made in partnership with Burch Family and most likely targeted at the OZ market) in several VM packs, including the below for $175 :

Anyone had the 2014 Yalumba The Tri-Centenary Grenache? I’m being offered a case of 12 at silly prices. PM me if you are Sydney based and would like to split. I’m only really after a handful.
