The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Thanks @RichardMEL
Do I get to review refunded costs before cancelling?

Yes.

And when I rebook, I just put in the voucher code in payment screen?
No, you use a separate booking process to book with a credit/voucher.

See "Redeeming a flight credit" here

Thanks, also found the Qantas youtube link on how to do this.

Had a random series of events and wanted to check if this is normal.

Initially booked QF479 SYD-MEL and it was scheduled to leave at 18:00.
Last night, I got an email saying that it got changed to 17:35 (which I accepted).
Then this morning, I got an email saying it got changed back to 18:00.

What is going on? I just hope they dont cancel the flight in the end.

They seem to shuffling some aircraft around for early next year. This week I have minor timing changes to 3 different domestic flights all that were booked during the DSC and scheduled in January. In all cases the aircraft size was upgraded.

Make sure to check the price of flights using the regular booking page first. Sometimes the voucher booking process will only offer flights that are priced higher than what can be booked regularly.

When this has happened to me, I call and the rep can book with no fee the regular priced fare and then apply the voucher. Retaining the PNR of course.

We are booked on Christmas Day on DSC status run, same PNR, revenue J there, red e deal Y back same day MEL-ADL-MEL.

Tuesday 1st notification ADL-MEL Y flight is now 10 minutes later - ok no problem, E-ticket reissued

2nd notification last night, Qantas have now cancelled our J flight MEL-ADL and options are cancel for refund or accept change to another flight.
This doesn't suit.

Happy to cancel the both flights but want to retain PNR for DSC to rebook for MEL-CNS -MEL.
Question: is this possible/easy?
Need to call or can be done online?
Thanks in advance for any tips
Update:
Thanks to @RichardMEL and @Isolar I have now sorted this out.

Spoke to Ken in Manila, and he was very helpful and did the flight credit putting notes in the booking waiving any change fees due to involuntary cancellation.
He advised calling back to book, rather than online as it could default to adding on change fee. I called once I received the voucher.

No issues with getting my preferred MEL-CNS return flights and had the website up and checked the prices as Va was doing the booking.
So instead of Christmas in the Adelaide QP, heading to Palm Cove for nephew's 30th.
Again thanks.

Flying SYD-MEL (arrive 6pm), connecting to MEL-NRT (dep. 9am next day). Same ticket, all on QF.

Will my bags check through and be held at MEL overnight, or will I have to look after my bags in Melbourne and redeposit the next day?
A bit late to this party, so wondering whether you ever got an answer to this one @encryptededdy.

In my experience the answer is no, your bags will not be checked through. And yes you will have to collect them when you arrive at MEL domestic, and then re-present yourself and your bags at MEL international the next day to check in for your flight. They won't hold bags overnight.

Ah yeah, the answer was no. They couldn't even print a boarding pass or bag tag for the flight the next day, so I still had to visit a check-in desk in Melbourne.

I suppose I got to use the Melbourne F check-in for the first time.

Not sure if this is the place to share this, but QF124 was delayed on Monday due to WX - apparently the ops center saw the ZQN forecast worsening and just delayed the SYD > ZQN > SYD service til the next day - 20 hours to be exact. Meanwhile JQ and NZ were still flying.

I was in ZQN, and at the airport they said because it's a WX delay there was no accommodation compensation.

I have travel insurance and am going through the claiming process now... I assume ACL/NZCL could help here but I wanted to ask - are Qantas on the hook for anything here?

I thought about asking for a rebooking on NZ/JQ via AKL/MEL but then it would involve more flights, just to get back to SYD 12 hours earlier... not worth the argument and asking QF to comp for hotels on the spot. Another night in ZQN it was... which isn't too bad.

See this I have issue with and partly why EU261 would never work in Australia. They just make up some excuse blame it on something else. Sure weather may have been at play but if their own subsidiary is still operating then there is something fishy going on.

There could be other factors - different risk factors? Routing / positioning requirements? There was some discussion and FB, and I couldn't figure out if the SYD pax were comp'd accommodation (crew who operated the delayed flight seemed to think so?)

On the plus side, load factor was closer to 50% with lots of folks moved to an earlier flight or possibly rebooked on other airlines to make connecting flights.

EU261-like regulations could be the forcing function for the airlines to tighten up their ops...

Hey,

I can't find a way to pay in dollars instead of 3200 QFF points for the green tier leaf, can someone please tell me if that's the only way?

TIA
If you’re referring to the “Give back” leaf, it’s only points. Which does take a chunk out the 10k points reward for those not interested in 50 SCs.

A quick question about Points Club/status and membership years.

Background: I'm about 18,000 points off hitting Points Club Plus this membership year (which ends 31 October). While I have about 6,000 points expected to post during the remainder of the membership year due to some Accor bookings, I'm relying on the remaining points (~16,800 comprising 1,800 from the stays and 15,000 bonus points) coming from Qantas Hotels bookings in mid-October, which I don't expect to post until mid-November. AIUI, status/Points Club is determined by 'activity date' so the points should be accounted for in this membership year and I'm all set in that respect.

Question: assuming the points from Qantas Hotels arrive in mid-November, will my Points Club Plus last until 31 October 2025 (membership year+1) or 31 October 2026 (membership year+2)?

If you hit it this membership year, it will carry over to next membership year (ending 2025). I have not experienced a soft landing from PCP.

In theory the retrospective post should be backdated but I'd expect it will require manual intervention.

With an increase in services for the northern winter - when would one expect additional award flights for those additional flights to pop up on the QF end?

Generally if they're gonna pop up they would pop up when these flights are loaded into the system. If you can book (cash) the new flights but see no award seats, then bad luck. JAL sometimes releases a batch of seats later, but there's no way to guess when that'll happen.
