The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

showing reward availability. This is not what I am after. Recently I somehow managed to navigate to a page showing each month (a calendar) detailing availability of rewards in all classes. Showing each month in totality provided an overview of which dates in the month awards were available. This is what I am after.
When you select a date in multi booking, select the flexible with dates check box.

I did this. I selected the dates I wanted and clicked on flexible with dates. clicked search and a new page came up with flights for the selected dates. What I am after is a page that allows you to navigate from one month to the next with different flight classes listed (these are different colours to signify each class of flight)

I posted this earlier but you need to use Multi-City booking and select Classic Rewards Only

This is exactly what I am after. I did exactly what you have pointed out. I don’t know anymore what to do. When you bring up the calendar next to the flight do you pick a date as well as ticking the box flexible with dates for all flights.

this is an edit. I did what was suggested. It doesn’t seem to work on domestic flights. However I did a search for only the outbound flight using an international destination and the calendar appeared showing availability across all classes as in the previous post. A separate search was conducted for the inbound flight. So all OK.

I have just been reading an interesting thread on a Qantas promotion offering double status credits for flights booked within a specific time frame (one week) for travel in the next twelve months. Offer now expired. I have been a frequent flyer for many years and can’t recall receiving this type of offer. Is this only offered to specific QFF members

There have been general offerings (once or twice a year) in the past. There’s a bunch of peeps hoping for one in the New Year. Even though many have had their status extended already, the DSC offers are also great to move up a level or get closer to LIfe Time status.

There have also been targeted promos for DSC and/or bonus points etc.

You also need to have ticked the option to receive promotional emails from Qantas in your Frequent Flyer profile. If you have opted out of promotional emails in the past, then offers like Double Status Credits may not be sent to you.

Check what you have listed to receive from Qantas in your Frequent Flyer profile. Log in, go to My Profile, and check what's listed under Interests and Subscriptions.

Hi everyone I have a question about a reward booking. I'm trying to find 2 business seats on QF80 in September and I don't seem to be able to find any availability. Is this because they're all taken or have these seats not been released since the flights are still not confirmed? I haven't even been able to find anything searching other months with even when searching for just 1 seat.

Any advice would be appreciated

Yeah, nothing available (not even in economy) - which is a little strange as I can see economy seats on random days earlier in the year.

Not that there was any availability either but any reason the JAL flights have such ridiculous taxes?

JAL is charging extremely high taxes for flights originating in Japan. However, it's much cheaper if you book a return from Australia. This is the same for cash fares too: A return or one way out of Japan is way more expensive than one from Australia. I have a few friends in Japan who are not happy about this pricing (unfortunately ANA is pricing similarly high YQ)

MEL-xBKK-HND + NRT-MEL = $208 AUD total

The same NRT-MEL flight as before, booked by itself: >$650 AUD

I'm not sure if it's the requirement for originating Australia or an Australian point of sale that's doing it.

Hi all, another newbie. I was inspired by the Noumea TR to book a business class flight and earn some SC to get me within easy reach of silver, and am heading off this weekend for a few days. The flights were $1600 return, on a 'business sale' fare. I'm interested to see what other destinations are available in the 'business sale' but can't find any promos about it on the website. Any clues where I might find it, other than going into each destination and seeing if that fare comes up?

Checked my account in line with your suggestions. Everything ticked including “exclusive offers for Qantas frequent flyer members”. This was located under interests and subscriptions. Not sure what to do next as I would like to take advantage of double status credits.

"Business Sale" is just the name of a fare class, there isn't necessarily currently a named sale AFAIK.

You can look here though: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/flight...au:en:flight-deals:flight-deals-hp:en:flights

Set the filter to Business and enter your departure city. Looks like the current sale to Noumea are part of the current Global Deal.

thanks! I did a search from Canberra (hometown) and only domestic options came up; but with Sydney as the departure point, there's heaps of options internationally and domestic. This will be handy if/when a double SC offer lobs into my inbox

It pays to keep an eye on what the true “usual” sale fares are and pounce when they are repeated. Fiji (NAN) for $1500 return (including codeshare on A350) is good. Noumea can be as low as $1k.

good to know - thanks! I've only been taking an interest in all things FF for about 2.5 months so I was thinking a 'cost per SC' of $7.50 was good. Sounds like I should aim for much lower than that

You can't do anything except keep an eye out for the next DSC offer and register for it when it comes out. There are always excited threads on AFF when an offer comes out. Then you'll usually have a week or so to make your bookings. There are often DSC offers in February but who knows when the next one will be. Maybe not at all while demand is so strong.

If you don't get a personalised email you can usually register direct on the QF website once an offer has come out.

Yes, if you get them for <$6 you are doing well. Anything below $5 /SC is really good. With the double SC offers, you can push it down towards $3 but those opportunities get snatched up quickly so it's worth booking pretty soon, if you find a flight you'd want to fly.

another newbie question. I haven't flown international in 10 years so am wondering about the (very specific) instructions about using a 20cm x 20cm resealable plastic bag to pack liquids in. Are they strict about only using that size specifically? Or can I use any largish ziplock bag
