The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Generally not the case for domestic travel or for award flights. But it is still common for international fares where most "sale" or "deal" fares are return only.
I think @Lynda2475 gave a more precise answer. There are savings on return flights but not enough these days to book a return flight and not use the return leg.

Does anyone know if a JL domestic economy L class flight (ITM > NRT) should earn 10 SC?
GF got 10 SC for one direction but not the other and is now being told it shouldn't have earnt anything.

The 10 SC would mean if she hits silver for the first time or not, so would like to work out what is actually correct.
Exact itinerary is
MEL > NRT ( credited)
HND> ITM (Credited)
ITM > NRT (not credited)
NRT> MEL (credited)

Is this the domestic leg on an international JL booking? (I don't actually know the answer either way, but I'm aware that JL Domestic is quite messy)

what are my chances here - I wasn’t paying attention when linking lounge passes to JQ flights. Did two (myself and my wife). Hers is fine, mine - I booked for today on a flight that departed four hours before my booking Haha. I’ve sent them an email but totally my issue - anyone been through the same?

This is a domestic leg that connects to Int'l. All flights on that i listed however are on the one ticket booking and both domestic legs have the same booking class.

Don't know what L class ties into with QFF, that is the main issue.
Maybe someone indeed made a mistake in crediting the 10 QFF SC, it might in a non earning class.
I have spent some time trying to find the subclass breakdown in QFF, but no luck.
Maybe they make it hard to do the claim on purpose.
Ideally with JL and QF being OW partners, it should earn 10, but they make the rules, I don't have any inside contacts, some might say mine on here is waffle, next step, send in a paper online claim, if you haven't done that.
Has your contact been verbal so far, or have you or she already sent in the paperwork?

Took me about 90 seconds to find the appropriate information:

L class is discount economy BUT, per the table, for flights WITHIN Japan, it does not earn. For international, yes it would earn.

L bucket is the discounted economy class that RTW fares (ie. paid fares, not OWAwards) book into in the OneWorld Explorer scenario (in the same way, Business RTW books into D, First RTW books into A).

Absent availability in any of those on a sector of a planned xONEx, and you're screwed for that sector.

Question for the AFF brains trust.

I've just booked an AS (Alaska) award through QF from SNA to SEA. Got my PNR from Qantas, but AS refuses to recognise it or the eTicket number (I presume it's a Sabre v Amadeus thing or similar?).

I've managed to do seat selection through the ol' Royal Jordanian trick, but was wondering whether there's a way of pulling up the AS PNR online so I can MMB on AS's own site?

I know CheckMyTrip used to spit it out, but probably not anymore since it was nerfed. Qantas should tell you it over the phone, if you're willing to call them up though.

Try BA.com. If it recognises it and then go to seat selection - it *might* show a link to AS with the booking code.

Sadly, the nerfed CMT app doesn't work (doesn't recognise the booking reference) - why they had to break what was an excellent site is beyond me!

I suspect AS might be on the same system as AA given that the AA site also doesn't recognise the booking either (and while BA does, it doesn't offer seat selection and hence the other PNR).

I have an AA booking (QF CR in a few weeks time). I managed to retrieve the AA PNR without calling by going to BA.com. When the booking opens in BA, I clicked on “Manage Booking” and then “Seat“ selection. The next page displays the QF (Amadeus) PNR and immediately below is the AA (Sabre) PNR. There’s a check box that if I tick it and click “Choose seats” it’ll take me to AA.com.

I would have thought AS would work similar.

If BA's website doesn't work, try putting the Qantas PNR into Royal Jordanians website. If it doesn't display the PNR you should be able to at least select seats.

If that doesn't work, the Malaysia Airways website should get you the PNR - but be aware the latter has a habit of showing it for only one or two seconds before hiding it (so be ready on the print screen key as soon as the page loads, or dig around in the HTML page source in your browsers developer tools for airline-record-locator).

Hopefully a quick and easy question for ya'll. I was able to print my boarding pass online and do not have checked bags for my flight on QF12 tonight and was wondering if I need to go to the check in desk? I'll be making a self connection to LAX and would love to stay airside if possible. Thanks in advance!

You should be fine - I did this with QF94 in early May (after a arriving on a separate AA booking -DFW-LAX).

BP was useful for accessing Lounge (where they scanned my Passport as well), but that was it - Facial Recognition on boarding (BP not needed).

The MH website did the trick - the field in the page source to look for is "listAirlineRecords". The next item is the AS PNR. Thanks. 😊

I have received a points upgrade for my flight Syd - Perth next month and the return flight in September.
I was surprised at how early they came through, the return one for mid September on 18/7/23. How do they already know they won't fill Business? Will these stick or is there a chance they will be rescinded? I have a Complimentary invitation I can give away, if I'm sure I'm not going to need it.

Domestic upgrades are confirmed at time of booking if there’s a business class award seat already available. Domestic doesn’t operate on the same lottery system as international flights. If all business awards are taken, you can still join the upgrade lottery.

It’s rare for these seats to be taken away… otherwise they’d undermine the value of the program. You can expect to fly in business class save for any last-minute schedule disruptions - like the cancellation of the flight and having to accommodate passengers on other services.
