The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

...Two of the sectors are operated by Qantas but have an American Airlines flight number: SYD > DFW and LAX > SYD.
I have the same: AY marketed (coded) QF and CX flights. Can't do the seat selection for those two flights online (through AY, QF, CX nor RJ MMB's). In a chat with AY, the agent there told me to contact QF and CX directly for the respective flights. I'm yet to bother to do that but hopefully it'll work out OK.

To be clear, there are several types of passes. Two of the more common types are:

"Domestic" - Valid for Qantas Clubs within Australia

"General" - Valid for International Business Lounges and Qantas Clubs within Australia.

In what context would a (true) complimentary pass be domestic only?

I imagine the pay per use lounge system uses the same portal, which would explain the domestic category, but I'm struggling to think of a credit card etc that issues domestic only passes.

The MH website did the trick - the field in the page source to look for is "listAirlineRecords". The next item is the AS PNR. Thanks. 😊
FWIW, this trick also works for AA bookings made through Qantas.

(Just booked ORD-PVD on a classic reward and was able to find my AA PNR for the trip in the MH MMB page source.)

RJ has be known to give access to seat selection when others haven’t. It can’t hurt to try.
This worked for me on my upcoming SEA-LAX flight, that i booked on qantas.com. Didn't want to call QF to get the AA "record number" so tried manage booking over at RJ with the Qantas booking ref and it worked great

If you have a Qantas Business Amex, the first "Qantas" spend each year generates two "Domestic" passes, not "General".

Here's more from the invitations page:
  • Domestic – can be used at any Qantas Club domestic lounge when departing on a Qantas or Jetstar flight number.
  • General – can be used at any Qantas Club domestic lounge, Qantas International Lounge or Qantas operated International Business Lounge (excluding Los Angeles Tom Bradley Terminal) when departing on a Qantas or Jetstar flight number.
  • Domestic Business – can be used at any Qantas Domestic Business Lounge or any Qantas Club domestic lounge when departing on a Qantas or Jetstar flight number.
  • P1 – Benefit – can be used at any Qantas Club domestic lounge, Qantas Domestic Business Lounge, Qantas International Lounge, Qantas operated International Business Lounge (excluding Los Angeles Tom Bradley International Terminal) and Qantas International First Lounge when departing on a Qantas or Jetstar flight number. View the Platinum One Benefit terms and conditions.
  • Titanium – Benefit – can be used at any Qantas International First Lounge when departing on a Qantas or Jetstar flight number. Invitations are not transferrable. View the Qantas Premier Titanium Credit Card Benefit terms and conditions.

Right, never seen that before. I thought they all issued general passes.

A colleague of mine is flying to Santiago with Qantas on a business ticket. They do not have status with Qantas per se but had a couple of questions for me which sadly I could not answer:
  • What lounge is available to them in Santiago when they fly back? Is it LATAM?
  • In Sydney, they can obviously enter the QF Business lounge holding that business ticket, but is there any way for them to get into the First lounge (I told them it's a long shot but likely no)? I will point out that this particular flight does not offer first class service if that impacts any of the calculus.
  • My colleague is travelling with their spouse in J, are there any seats you would recommend for flight? I'm guessing the mini J (rows 10-12) is preferred to the main J cabin (rows 1-8)? Also does T-80 also apply for them as well?
Your feedback is much appreciated

Yes. LATAM VIP Lounge (according to OW website). It’s quite nice.
  • In Sydney, they can obviously enter the QF Business lounge holding that business ticket, but is there any way for them to get into the First lounge (I told them it's a long shot but likely no)?
No, unless they know a WP or two who’s travelling that day.

The mini cabin is close to two basinet seats just behind in PE plus another J basinet at the front of the mini cabin. So just leave that there.

The main J cabin is fine. A pair in the centre or if they prefer windows - the odd numbers are true window seats.
  • Also does T-80 also apply for them as well?
Yes.

Another (potentially) newbie question to ask:
For the OneWorld flights I have booked to the US (QF, AA and AS) if I manage to secure an upgrade to business class, how does status credit accrual work? Will I receive status credits based on the originally ticketed fare or the new upgraded fare? This obviously is a big deal for me as I'm 105 status credits short of Platinum after I'm through my bookings.

Yes. The only exception I’m aware of where one gets the upgraded SCs is paying for an upgrade on BA.com prior to checkin.

Hello Everyone.

I wanted to boost my status credits on an upcoming trip to Dubai and thought I could do that by flying the Qantas codeshare flights on Emirates metal. Qantas list flights such as QF 8373 (BKK_DXB) in their timetable but the only way to book a flight on the route BKK-DXB via the Qantas Website is via points and that defeats my quest for status credits. Qantas consultants claim that only Emirates can book the QF flight numbers. Emirates say that only Qantas can book those QF flight numbers. So I am stuck in the middle. Has anyone suceeded in booking QF codeshare flights on this or other routes on Emirates metal?

Appreciate any suggestions from the community on this my first post!

William

Welcome to AFF. From QF website…
Customers can fly with Emirates between Australia and 50 one-stop codeshare destinations across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Flying from BKK to DXB won’t give you a codeshare option, but if use the multi-city booking option on the QF website, and book SYD-BKK-DXB, you will get the codeshare option.

website, and book SYD-BKK-DXB,
Thanks for the quick reply Gaz0303! That suggests that these codeshares are only available on itineraries that originate in Australia. Unfortunately I am starting from Bangkok. No real option it seems - I guess it will have to be Qatar for minimal status credits or Emirates for convenience (DXB is my hub for onward African flights).

You should be able to book SYD-BKK-DXB without using the multi-city tool (I’ve done it, albeit a few years ago). However, I gather the OP wants to start in BKK, which presents a challenge.

The multi-city search ought to work for an Oz to BKK (stopover of 1 to many days) and then off to DXB and elsewhere. If that’s an option?

For AA-coded flights booked on AA metal, if you pay for a business class upgrade (through the app/web site), you will get business class SC's.

Example - this was booked in Y and upgraded through the app (RDU to DFW).

Do you recall what booking class the upgrade became?

Hopefully not a silly question but how does one see upgrade offers on the AA site? I've gone into manage my booking for the res and couldn't find that (I'm flying 3 sectors that are eligible: DFW > PIT, MSP > PHX, PHX > SFO). Also is being booked on a discount Q fare impact your ability to upgrade?

I'm not sure how to tell. There is an email I got with a receipt but it just shows the ticket number and not the new booking class; I didn't get a whole new itinerary email (maybe I could have requested it, but I can't now for past bookings that I can tell). My original flight was in Economy (S), which appears to be a middle-tier discount economy.

They only appear if/when AA decides to offer them - I don't know if there's any discernable/obvious rules like certain availability in certain classes. I spent a lot time reviewing this thread (hopefully okay to link here) to see what was a reasonable offer and what wasn't.
Upgrade Offer on App - FlyerTalk Forums .

Yes.
Heh heh.

On the EK purely BKK - DXB, there is no option of a QF codeshare, so your earn little QFF points and no QFF SC wise, is nil under the QF and EK agreement.
EK is not in OW, so that is the problem, and EK only carries the QF code share on some of their flights, not all.
No use positioning to SYD just to earn the SC.
Maybe something in OW from BKK to as close to the UAE, and then something cheap to DXB?
