The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Either way:
  • Using points in your account - both can be on the same booking, or can be separately booked
  • Using points in individual accounts - it'll be on separate bookings
also, if booking return flights you can book one way each - so you’re on the same booking (more likely to be seated together!).

Or one does the bookings and the other does a family transfer of points.

PS
Welcome to AFF @KensAFF

Seems such a simple thing, but could not find this info on any threads.
Yes preference definitely seated together, so will do one booking through my FF account and family transfer from partner.
PS
Thx @SYD , 1st time for everything ;)

I will be flying out of Sydney international next Friday as a QF Gold member flying AY economy to FRA and am curious if I can avail myself of the fast track (business/first) security and immigration lanes.

As an aside, after this trip I will have earned QF Platinum. I know this will give me access to the QF J lounge domestically but am wondering if I can also access the QF Clubs too since the QF Pub is better than the business lounge there.

No, still only F/J BP holders.

Yes

Not really.

Sorry - no - not even WP/P1 are eligible at this point... it remains a class of service fast-track for the time being...

I was going to book it all online.
Is there a benefit to dealing with the call centres?
You will have to deal with either the MNL or JNB team of outsourced agents.
If lucky, might get the AKL team.
If they are knowledgeable and on the ball, it would probably work.
But hard to say fir sure.
Best of luck.

Weird. Is that just a QF thing or does that apply to all OW airlines offering the service?

Oh well, at least I get to use the EU line when clearing Schengen immigration at HEL as a Canadian on account of me having a "tight" connection to my onward flight to FRA.

QF (and other airlines too I suppose) don't want to pay SYD airport for Y pax to use express path.

I am a Qantas newbie but i have lots of frequent flyer points. Everytime i try and search for reward flights on my Qantas account i just get a black screen with dots flashing and nothing ever loads. i put in the destination and the dates, the calendar comes up, i choose dates, click select flights, and then nothing. I have never been able to get it to work. Can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong ? Thanks N

What's your QFF status Nigeldw?
Once you enter your QFF # whmgen you phone, the system will or should put you to HBA.
If WP/P1 ie upper grade, you can phone up and will most likely get the HBA QF call centre.
Otherwise if lower grade, er, status, have to make do with the outsourced MNL or JNB call center.

Not that I have seen that bkack screen with the "working" dots on the QF website.

Sounds like a browser issue. Tried a different browser?

I'm using Expert Flyer to try and find reward seats in Aug 2024 out of Sydney.
However after trying 20 or so direct destinations flown by Qantas, there are no reward seats available.
(also tried going from BNE and MEL with no luck)

Am I doing something wrong in my search criteria?

You need to use the multi-city search feature of Qantas to do a classic award search on the route and date you want. This will give you a calendar listing all dates in a given month that have classic award availability. Also realize too that Tokyo has two airports Haneda (HND) and Narita (NRT) so you will want to search for both airports not just HND as there may be partners that fly there (i.e. CX).

I am looking at booking Jakarta CGK to Tokyo HND, and there is a JAL codeshare flight JL5012 that is operated by Garuda.

Question is, if I book the flight, will it earn status with my QFF?

Per the Qantas website, no:
Qantas Points and Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes, except on JAL and Japan Airlines affiliate codeshare flights operated by an airline other than Qantas or a oneworld member airlin

Your search criteria/method looks fine from the screenshot. It may just be that there are no award seats on Qantas flights on the routes you've checked. August is a peak/tough month and FFers with status have had access to these awards for 56 days; in fact Bronze FFers can only access Qantas' premium cabin awards @ 297 days, which is July 5 according to Google.

What do you mean by that? The connection time itself should have no bearing to your eligibility for the eGates or to use the EU/EEA lanes.

In fact, Wikipedia tells this about the entry to Finland using a Canadian passport.
Helsinki Airport has dozens of automated passport machines. These can be used by travellers who have an e-passport (biometric passport).
  • Citizens of EU, EEA, Switzerland, Japan and South Korea can use the passport machines at arrival and departure.
  • Citizens of the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand can use the passport machines whenever they are departing.

There is no preferential treatment for Canadians transferring HEL.

But on my recent entry there were two airport staff patrolling the huge non EU line calling out specific flight numbers departing soon and bringing those people to the front of the line (but not the EU desks even though they were empty).
