The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Was hoping someone could help explain how to book Emirates first class seats with Qantas points (Syd-CHC). I'm searching for Oct next year and J class seats are showing on the Emirates flights but not first. There is no option to search for first through qantas. Thanks in advance.
Mutli tool search.

Have found and claimed this F EK flight previously so can be found.

Did you search for 2 people as well? Generally speaking EK never release 2 F seats far in advance for any route.

Sorry what do you mean by multi tool search? I know it can be done but I can't find any F rewards regardless of date so i'm assuming i'm doing something wrong. Thanks again.
Use the multi-city search on a full browser. Even though you’re searching point to point. Check flexible dates box and you hopefully will see a calendar view with any F seats.

But plenty of 2x seats in coming days thru to Jan/Feb.

A lot of single seats for months out. Maybe peeps aren’t seeing them because there’s no “First” in the search drop down list?

I am a complete newbie to QFF program. I have 8100 points. I have 150 status credits. 13,249 points club. No idea what this is.

From QFF website

To attain silver

more Status Credits
Eligible flights goal achieved The travel required in each Membership Year to attain or retain Silver, Gold and Platinum tier must include a minimum of four Flight Segments where:
Qantas, QantasLink or a Jetstar Airline is the Marketing Carrier; and
travel on each of those flights earns Qantas Points or Status Credits or both.
Before Tuesday 31 December 2024”

I want to book a return flight from Albury to HND Japan for March 2025. Does the above quote mean I have to book before 31/12/24?

Would I have any chance of achieving Silver status?
I think I may have some points with Qatar and JAL. Can I convert them to QFF?

You need to *earn* the status credits by the end of your membership year. That means all flights taken and completed, not just booking them.

You cannot swap points easily between other programs and qantas.

Your 13,249 points club points are those which have been earned, year to date, and qualify towards ‘points club’. This is a parallel program to your regular points, and if you meet the threshold (earn 150k points) you get a lounge pass, a hotel voucher ($50 off), and the ability to earn status credits on award bookings.

The main benefit of silver is a lounge pass and business class checkin. Plus some slightly better seating options.

Q1 QF points and SC are earned on the (departure) day of the flight. Not the day booked.
Q2 To me you have little to nil chance earn 150 SC in the next 5 weeks (by 31 Dec). Unless you fly a lot and/or business class. You are only 50% of the way. QF Silver does not have many benefits. QF Gold (OW sapphire) gives you lounge access. So useful.
Q3 No way to "convert" to QF ffp. Expect they will expire. Would have been better to have put your QF ff number in the EK & JL reservations

For Gerrib:
8000 QFF points will get you a "free" seat from ABX to SYD, one way, on the Dash8, you would have to pay taxes, and the SYD - ABX on the way back.

Qantas Points earned None, Status Credits earned None, Changes 5,000 pts, Cancellations 6,000 pts, Included bags Yes., Standard seats Yes, Request Points Upgrade Yes,

The above is one way, so you can see, 8,100 QFF points is just not enough for the full burn of QFF points, to Japan, even with JQi.

PC (Points Club) is where you spend a lot on non flying activities, ie, on ground.
QF/QFF has never sent me anything about it, so somehow, most likely, you might have/must have somehow provided QFF your QFF #.
Take a google look at what PC is.

You mean one way J ticket. 31500 for Y one way and 81000 for J.

Thanks. It's still a bit of a mystery. A free ticket Albury to Sydney will save me about $170.
What is EK & JL reservations?
Looks as though I'll be flying cattle class sedated with Valium as my flying days will be coming to an end soon. (I'm an old lady.

Like QF = Qantas, EK is the code for Emirates and JL the code for Japan Airlines.

If your budget can stretch, you might want to look into premium economy fares. Looking at a couple of random dates in March, you can fly from Melbourne to Tokyo one way on Scoot (which is Singapore Airline’s offshoot, same as jetstar to qantas) and return on Philippine airlines, Both with 3 hour layovers in Singapore or Manila respectively.

Scoot is very basic but you get a big seat with generous recline and a free meal. Philippine airlines is a little more upscale! Again with a bigger seat but also better amenities on board.

Of course if you fly qantas, you’ll get more points to add to your kitty, which could give you another one way trip from al bury to Sudney or melbourne in the future.
