The Qantas Status Run Master Thread

Thanks.

Quoting the article above:

"Note that Dallas/Fort Worth is considered part of “East Coast USA/Canada” in the Qantas earning tables, so flights from the US west coast to Dallas earn at the lucrative trans-continental rates."

@Mattg I suggest you update this.

Thanks for pointing this out. We've updated the article.

It looks like Qantas may have changed the earning tables at some point but not (yet) updated the calculator.

Am I mistaken or has Dallas been dropped from the "East Coast USA/Canada" definition? Could have sworn it used to be in here:

Theres a Dallas only table, seems to be some discrepancies with the Calculator too as its showing Dallas - East Coast and Dallas - West Coast. West coast routes are showing 60 in calc but is 100 in table.
It is 100SC for any East Coast / West Coast travel to Dallas - confirmed it earlier this year. Was nice to get an additional 40 SCs for the trip on AA's First Class (Counted as J).
They changed dallas at some point a few months ago so I suspect theres a new definition and change for future travels. They probably should have a "for booking up until X date" clause like a lot of the other tables.

To be fair, I never found it to have made sense for Dallas to be "east coast".

Hi, wanted to ask regarding SYD-SGN route. According to:

Starter Max is no longer existent and Flex Plus only earns 40 SC. However Qantas site still lets me book this route and it says Max bundle on JQ61 for 60 SC.

Also, oddly enough there's another fare on some dates that only earn 30 SC. I don't see how this is possible given the calculator doesn't show a single option for 30 SC on QF or JQ flights.

Can anyone tell me with certainty what SC I will earn on JQ61 if I book through Qantas website?
I don't think anyone can tell you with certainty. However if you can screenshot and save that sort of information (correctly showing it at time of booking etc), you could at least argue for the amount.

That being said, it may be that QF as a travel agent can still book "Max" fares but on JQ you can't. Afterall iirc QF prices were significantly higher than JQ + Max bundle before hence why previously I'd never go to QF site to book a JQ flight unless under very specific circumstances.

@Dmac59

Sorry about the late reply. I’ve been out of reach. I see you guessed right: Double Status Credits 😊

Sorry guys can’t see this anywhere- can you do a 65 minute turnaround in AKL (flying return ex MEL) without any dramas? Hoping to do a same day return…. Cheers

Should be straightforward. Through transit security and back airside. It is not far to walk from the gates.

The total cost is 125,400 points and about $500 in surcharges.

Curious what your plans are for the overnights in MEL and AKL. I ended up staying at the Ibis hotels in MEL, and had to go landside in AKL because it was too long before the flight back.

During my status runs I didn’t get a single widebody, nor did I visit the SYD FLounge - really wanted to but would have made for a longer run with suboptimal routine and worse $/SC.

Nice work. Any pushback on the overnight in Melbourne?

I've checked my FF activity and the cost was actually 136,800. My guess is the extra 11K is for the overnight.

Is the $500 your total cash outlay for this fare? Plus the stated points cost.

Correct.

I'll stay at a hotel in Melbourne. For Auckland, my original plan was to take a swag and sleep inside the airport (landside). I'm now thinking I'll use my Points Club Plus hotel voucher and get something close to the airport.

Just as an FYI for AKL landside, you're pretty much limited to only wooden benches or plastic seats with armrests through them. It also gets quite cold - probably one of the worst airport overnights I've done.

I would go across to the Novotel and relax with a glass of vino till check in opens then head to the lounge.

2 hotels literally just outside the terminal. Novotel slightly cheaper (& 50m closer). Pullman is nicer. Not that you notice for the 9 or so hours you're in it.

The transfer security in AKL should be possible. You should be airside by 0100. Take a blanket with you and curl up on the padded seats up near gate 9/10. Make sure you have an eye mask and ear plugs. The lounge opens at 0500 so about 4 hours snoozing. Not long enough to bother with a hotel IMHO.
