The TomCat Family's Luxury Escape

Great to see you all had a good time.
We took our kids everywhere from carrying them around in a basket to attend the theatre, to flying them around the world.
They still remember a lot of their early travels , tell others about their experiences and are now carting their babies around the world.

There's something to be said for boarding last. No line at security so no feeling rushed with the two kids. Straight on board, the FAs rushed over to get the kids settled and watching tv, champagne for mum and dad and then we were pushing back a few minutes later.

I wonder if you saw a restaurant called The Survivors on the beach in Khao Lak. We went pre tsunami and had a favorite restaurant on the beach where we ate most nights. Thought the worst at the time of the tsunami thinking there was no way they could survive. But the mother and daughter miraculously survived and when we went back later went to their restaurant and it was those people. Food though wasn't as good.

We didn't really go into town much, Kalima is a bit out of town and the kids don't enjoy being dragged around too much.
I went down a bit of a rabbit hole looking into the tsunami while we were there. Crazy to think none of the big resorts existed back then. I understand it was a very different town back then.

That's a massive kids meal.
I was wondering why masterTC keeps falling asleep at mealtimes, but I'm going to put it down to just food coma🤣.

That's more salad than a Neil Perry. Are they mini cucumbers?.
The falling asleep was more because he's recently stopped napping, plus wasn't really eating much on holiday, probably because he was too hot.
Wasn't too impressed with the kids meal as they just served up the adult entree. On the way over they had kid friendly nibble plates. He only ate the chips, sultanas, chocolate, my ice cream and a Milo last night.

The kids are in the throws of serious jet lag, hopefully we're all settled by tomorrow.
While we were sad to leave, we had a good trip home. We hired our driver from the day trip to take us to the airport. Check in was quick and easy, as was security. No one seems fussed about LAG bags these days, though they did take Master TCs EpiPen to get approval for it to be on board. Never had that before.
Lounge access is at the Coral Executive lounge. Nothing fancy but they have free coughtails and come around to give free shoulder and neck massages.

Crew on board we're lovely, particularly with the kids. And the kids meal was decent, as was my own meal. And hot towels are back!

Anyway, back to Singapore. Another easy arrival and this time the immigration offical was actually friendly. We booked the Yotel again because grand prix weekend is not a great weekend to visit Singapore if you want a cheapish hotel.

We had a little chill out time then headed to the taxi rank to catch a cab to dinner. Big mistake. Huge. The queue was absolutely horrendous and we realised it was not going to happen. Fortunately I'd set up Grab before the trip, and it looked like we could book a car with two car seats, so a few minutes later we were on our way to dinner.

TV had booked Lawry's Prime Rib to make the most of an amex dining credit so that's where we were going. Plus kids dine free on Thursdays which is lucky because the kids set menu is $49 per kid (Singapore dollars 😯). I'm still undecided on the meal. It was good, but I don't think it was as good as it could have been given the price. And the service started off very attentive but by the time we'd finished, the staff were no where to be seen and not even the offer of a dessert menu 🤷🏻‍♀️

We each had the prime rib meal which is a salad, then meat, mash and a (shared) Yorkshire pudding.

For the kids, they immediately bought out a kids plate and cutlery set for each child, but then served their meals on normal plates. 🤦🏻‍♀️

We packed ourselves up and headed to the SQ lounge. I really like the new lounge. It was quite a bit busier than our visit two weeks prior but still quiet and we easily found a set of four seats to settle in to. Breakfast options are hit and miss for kids. They have a pancake machine, and a bowl of waffles, plus toast but no spreads other than butter. Our two snacked on juice boxes, fruit and yoghurt. I on the other hand had champagne, wonton soup and a few other bits and pieces.

When it was time, we headed off to the gate and it was quite a treck. It's a bit walk for little legs even with the travelators, and the trunki got a workout.

We must be been quite late to the gate as there was no queue for security, which was friendly and efficient, and not as stressful as I remembered. We didn't even have to empty the kids water bottles.
