Help! Oh dear....timing is very bad for me. I've just been given a 100SC's from my Amex card. I'm Red but silver is just one sector away on my app. But I've now got 435 SCs. So only 65 SC's away from Gold. My partner pools to me too. So if i fly one more time I get silver I assume and earn at least 15SC. So to get gold i need 500SC and do i also have to fly 4 new eligible sectors AFTER I get silver ? I'm new to all this . Based in Sydney. It's all rather urgent as i have 200 SC's expiring in mid February and I'll be in New Zealand then. I said it was all bad timing & used Qantas points for NZ (Yes i'm an idiot but didn't expect Amex bonus to come through this quick)
Will Sydney to Ballina be a cheap way for us to get more SC's ? For the extra eligible sectors can my partner send them to me or do i physically have to fly myself? Any recommendations?? PS We are very flexible with days or even staying overnight etc. Cut off is the 6th Feb.

Your partner can only pool points and status credits to you, you will need to fly the eligible sectors yourself (Choice fares or higher).

After you reach silver you will need another 2 eligible flights, and also the extra status credits.

Look out for the happy hour sale fares once a week but make sure you don't book the lite fares.

Maybe do a 2 stop flight, that'll get you the 3 more sectors you need for Gold.
Making sure you score 65SC's.

If you & your partner do a 3 leg flight at 15SC together that's 90SCs, so no probs there.

Now to find the most cost effective 3 leg trip....2 leg stop to a destination then return following day direct. Nice night away.
Happy hour tomorrow from 11am.

Yeah, AmEx status credits are what have put me within a whisker of Silver.

Where can you see when your Status Credits expire?

Log into your velocity account:
Then click "Status" and scroll a little and click on "How far are you from upgrading" - a pop up will appear outlining how many status credits expire, and when.

Thank you. I have until 30 January to get 14 status credits including two flight sectors... Surprisingly expensive to do from Canberra... Flying somewhere and back in the same day just isn't possible for reasonable money.

In my opinion it's not worth paying for Silver status on either VA or QF.

You'd get better value from a $399 VA lounge membership. Or put the money towards the Amex Platinum card annual fee, which includes lounge access.

Thankyou so much. I also have a ABN and a Virgin Business Flyer portal account that's new. Is there a downside to booking flights through that ?

I'll hand ball the virgin business flyer question to someone else.

I'm not knowledgeable on that one.

Not really, i found cheaper business class and flex flights when I did a status flight (and also $50 corporate travel voucher sitting on my account).

Sometimes the login and portal is a bit wonky I found, but otherwise perfectly fine to use and potentially cheaper.

Thx. Unfortunately Happy Hour is having a break this week. Probably due to all the other sales on at the moment. looking at Syd to Adelaide with a connection in Mel is one option . but all the options im lookin at add up to around $600 for a round trip for 2 people with Choice seats ...... its not sounding like a great deal to get Gold LOL . I found Newcastle to OOL ( via Syd LOL ) for one person which gives me 35 points each way plus 2 sectors each way but thats $650 for Choice seats. And i need to get from Syd to Newcastle hmmmm.
I lose 1 sector on my account on 9th Feb. and 30SC's, and lose 16 Sc on 28th Feb . so thats why i wanted a quick fix now. Or i look to do 4 sectors in March when i have more time.....before 250Sc expire in April !

I need 60 status points and 6 sectors to retain Platinum before end Feb. Im based in BNE. Is BNE to Melb via syd the best option? Else BNE-SYD-BNK (byron bay) return?

Is departing MCY an option? You could potentially do a return trip to HBA or ADL to swing 3 sectors in each direction.

Its a 90 minute drive, OOL is closer to me 70 minutes away, does that offer other options?
I wouldn't worry about 20 mins extra drive.
Who's concerned about time or emissions when comes to status chasing!

You could knock over the 6 sectors in 1 trip as @sudoer has kindly provided an example.
For a rather reasonable price.

Hi All,

I have been trying to find a cheap way to earn 127 SC before 27 Feb or 168 SC by 03 Mar to get to platinum but I am struggling.

I need 3 more segments. I am based in MEL.

I am happy to do it in economy or business. Preferably same day return or 1 night.

Thanks for any advice.
