The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Throw a slight twist on that one.......241, family pool, 100SCs for $179.........$1.79 each......Enhancement likely.

Just remembered that the 2 for 1s are calculated per sector. So you would have to use all 4 flights to make that work.

Interesting. Looking at heading to DRW in a couple of weeks, so the via Melbourne option might be worth while if i can get upgrades to clear. There is a painful 3hr stop over in Mel between 10:30pm and 1:30am. Does anyone know if the lounge is open during this time?

I do believe the lounge is open in Mel.

I flew on the red eye from MEL-DRW about 12 months ago ... Lounge was open until flight was called.

Has this always been the case?

I wonder how point upgrades and platinum complementary upgrades will be treated now.

Kind of sucks when there is no direct flight available and your forced to fly multi-sector through no choice of your own.

My regular flights are limited to MEL-ADL... I'm silver status at the moment but will have a month flying through America in July and would like to upgrade to Gold to use the perks with my partner.

Any tips on how to maximise SC in the MEL-ADL route without having to fly J? I'm happy to pay Flexi even though my dates are usually set... however paying an average of $700 to fly business for a 1 hour flight seems like a complete waste of money IMO.

If you're not booking well in advance and the saver fares are $150+ look for any Flexis for $199 - you'll get double the SCs. Occasionally on some flights on some routes the flexi fare is even cheaper than the saver.

Also look for any decent priced options routing through CBR (this may not be possible because its illogical). Again you'll get twice the SCs.

Okay, one for the gurus out there.

I am sitting on 895 SC's and need 105 SC's for Plat. I will have 80 SC's dropping off on (posted date) 17 Jan (flight date was 15 Jan) and then another 100 SC's on 23 Jan (flight date was 21 Jan).

I can either family pool with the (2) kids on Thursday 10th (so a flight of at least 20 SC's per sector required) or do it by myself on Fri 11th. I doubt I will have any flying next week (which would make it easier with the change to per sector SC's, but that's life :(). Want to minimise the $ cost if Thursday, whereas Friday could be tax deductible (I have clients everywhere :D).

What a conundrum to have. Now to do some research - my initial thoughts are MEL or ADL...anyone with any better options?

P.S. Nothing like research to give a downer. MEL apppears to be 15SC's, so that would leave me 15 short. Do I need to head to CNS for the day?

I think you need to visit Princess Fiona then fly to MEL via BNE for $175 to get 50 SC after the 13th, then come back, easy and cheap 100SC, you do need to position to TO FROM BNE which will be the same plane you fly in or fly out on.

If the AusBT article is to be believed that SCs are earned from next weekend on reward redemption of classics, LW it might be worth burning some points on a J classic!

Cannot see to many people trying this for a status run, hard way to earn 50 SC for $200 CNS-TSV via BNE return!

Well now I just need to wait to see if the sectors post:

BNE/NTL Flexi x2
NTL/MEL Flexi x2
MEL/BNE Saver x2

With this change to Sabre being done at the same time I can't see until at least tomorrow.

Got to love Family pooling :D

Looks like status runs just got harder. Connecting flights now charge a hefty premium over direct flights.

Hope you booked plenty of those $179 MEL-NTL flights last week!!

Enhancement No.1? No SC runs!

Hopefully that also means the status levels won't change.

The differences don't seem to be as bad for the award bookings - at least looking at a reward business seat booking from SYD-OOL (via MEL ..?!) it's 13800 + $28.02 vs 13800 + $20.41.

If those business award seats earn SCs at business rates (for the first half of the year) & the reward seats also count SCs per sector, that's not infeasible (albeit 2 hours of unnecessary flying) for a 100SC run. Maybe I should try and get up to WP before someone decides to 'enhance' the offering..!
