The view from my "office"

If it’s a stand-alone concrete car park, it’s difficult to see what use sprinklers would be. Any fire would be plastic and hydrocarbon fuels burning and sprinkling water on them I don’t think would help very much.

Is there such a thing as foam or other additive sprinklers in specialised situations?

Sprinklers have been shown to be effective on car fires. Car fires can be "concealed", i.e under the bonnet or in the cab, but at least you can prevent the spread of fire.

PS. Yes, you can use foam as in aircraft hangers, but their use is deprecated because of environmental effects, unless under very controlled run-off conditions.

Delayed TWB-SYD service today. Delay by 35 mins … which wouldn’t be a biggie, but now I’ve got a SYD-CBR with only 30 mins left to connect … have to be in CBR tonight, so that I’m available nice, bright and early for my CBR-MEL-LST tomorrow morning!! Fingers crossed 🤞

Singapore QF First Lounge evening office.

This was my first time in this lounge. I must say I was underwhelmed. The lounge was crowded to bursting when I arrived, with only a few scattered seats at shared tables in both the lounge and dining areas. Buzzers were given out for the showers. However, after QF2 for Sydney and the Brisbane flight left, the lounge became easier to use. Well appointed and spacious powder rooms. I enjoyed a Four Pillars G&T. (I admit to having been spoilt as a WP, so take a pinch of salt with my comments. Except butter on the menu!)

The menu is the same as Melbourne’s. Except that this one had butter smeared on the lower corner! There are only a few items that are gluten free. Sydney will prepare and cook the squid gluten free, but nowhere else. I ordered the broccoli soup and the barramundi. They were delivered at the same time! The server took the fish away and spoke to the waiter on the way past. When I ate a freshly cooked barramundi later, it was perfectly just-cooked and moist.

My layover at LHR is only 1hour 35 minutes, so hopefully I have time to visit their First Class lounge. Another first for me.

Sooooo … there weee further delays to the TWB-SYD service. We departed at least 55 mins late than scheduled. As we were 3/4 way thru, the pilot informed that there’s going to be further delays getting into SYD because there’s only one runway operational and ATC have advised of delays etc … the eta to land is 2120 which is 5 mins after my SYD-CBR departs.

I spoke to the FA and they said that they’d call the captain and see what’s happening - they later came to my seat to confirm that the SYD-CBR will also be delayed. So at this point in time, I’d still make the connection …

30 more mins on air, there’s a LOT of turbulence and captain advises further delays getting into SYD. We finally land at 2130 and I immediately update my QF app and also call the premium line. Went thru to NAN, no delays. Explained my situation, they offered to put me on a SYD-MEL-LST tomorrow. But I really want to go to CBR (I’ve gotta do some work). So I told that I’ll give them a call after talking to ground staff.

I approach the gate agent at the landing gate, she said that I’m now moved to a 0745 SYD-CBR service, which I say won’t work for me because I have a 0600 CBR-MEL.

She then put me back on the original SYD- CBR that was supposed to fly tonight. But she also told me that it’s very, very likely that this will be cancelled.

I went to the gate from where SYD-CBR was boarding and there was an announcement that this service is now canceled and QF is working on accommodation and transportation etc.

So I awaited my turn, was put in Novotel with a bus waiting to take us to the hotel. Some pax were put in Ibis. So I guess I got lucky with Novotel.

Arrived at the hotel, too late to order dinner and I.was.starving! No lounge at TWB and no lounge at SYD. The friendly duty manager checked me in and I asked if I could grab something to eat. He says the kitchen is closed and we left it there. As he handed my room card, he asks if I’m a vegetarian. I says yes, he then says come back in 15 mins, I’ll ask the kitchen to make a vego pizza! 😀 #GodSend!

Any chance they can just fly you SYD-MEL and claim ORC for the missed legs?

They can. It’s just that I need to drop off and pick up a few work things at CBR … so need to go to CBR.

Status run?
Nah! Just a regular trip impacted by delays and cancellations …
