Today's office was a typical start to a bank holiday weekend in the UK, raining cats and dogs. First up, Stonehenge.

This chap won't get getting far any time soon...

Cleeve Abbey (making good use of our 3 day old English Heritage pass, with Stonehenge and Cleeve Abbey we've nearly covered what we paid for the annual fee).

Then it was off to Dunster, to see the Yarn Market and Gallox Bridge.

And then finally a Douglas Fir tree, the largest in England!

My office is Karangahake Gorge.

Access is via two suspension bridges.

Once into the gorge you can see the old gold mine and its abandoned infrastructure.

This includes tracking the old rail line along the cliffs and though tunnels.

Beautiful scenery and well worth a visit.

Looks lovely. I think the English heritage passes and national trust cards are great value

Using the Audi discount we got ours for 25% off, so good value at £48 per person. £37 worth already done this weekend and then there is a place near home that's £18 to get into we've been keen to visit for some time, so easy enough. For NT I'd buy the Scottish version as it's much cheaper and still gives access to all the English NT sites too. We'll probably get that next year.

FWIW we used to buy the Scottish NT joint membership, but the NZ and Australian membership are reciprocal as well and cheaper than the English NT.

Maybe your folks can bring you an Aus one

The parking charges at most sites mean you end up paying more than just getting the Scottish one.
That is annoying that you get charged for parking but I guess I've been lucky that I've mainly been to ones that don't charge for parking

Only issue with non English NT is that you don’t get the free parking permit but we’ve found that we just leave one if our Scottish cards on the dash and never seem to have an issue. Maybe just lucky.🍀

I wonder if it's worth splitting these out into a new thread?

Can I park for free at National Trust places in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, as they no longer use car parking stickers?
The National Trust have started using barcodes on their membership cards to gain access and free parking at National Trust car parks in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. As a member of the National Trust for Scotland, your car parking sticker is still accepted and will grant free parking. In car parks that have attendants, members should show their card and display their sticker (or any ticket) you are given for free parking. Similarly, National Trust members can still request a car parking sticker from the National Trust should they wish to visit Scotland and use our free parking benefit.

We are in communication with the National Trust about this and have been assured that any National Trust for Scotland member will continue to receive free car parking in all National Trust car parks. If you experience an issue with this at a National Trust property, please get in touch with the National Trust.
