Hydrangeas grow readily from cuttings. You should never need to buy one.
In Thailand? I've never seen them anywhere other than Kham Thiang Flower/Garden market in Chiang Mai.

The small ones were 150 baht (~AUD7), the pink was 400 baht (~AUD19) and the blue was 500 baht (~AUD24) so I spent ~AUD85 in total.

I don't want to risk taking clippings from Australia although I'm going to take some seeds. I will more than likely put Snapdragons in front of the hydrangeas. Mum does well with them in Sydney. They seem to grow and re-grow on their own quite well.

In April or most likely September I'll get brother in law to build me another garden bed next to the hydrangeas. At this stage the plan is for carnations but that may change.

We don't spend much time there at the moment but I'm trying set it up now for when we do spend more time there. We've got quite a few solar lights around and I'll get more. It's great to sit on balcony at night drinking an icy cold Chang beer, listening to music on YouTube and looking around my garden. So Serene. Like my own Utopia. Don't get me wrong, the village is boring but relaxing at the same time if that's possible. 2 weeks Pattaya, 3 weeks Sanpatong, 2 weeks Pattaya would just about be perfect.

Considering that @JohnK is in Thailand, cuttings may not be available. 😉
I happened to walk past a hydrangea just 5 minutes ago and noticed this little fella amongst the leaves. Lucky spot because when I cam back a few minutes later he was gone. A black prince, late in the season now.

Edit: Annoying that the camera (phone) focused on the plant and not the cicada. Took 3 attempts to get an almost focused cicada.

You do realise the pink and blue are the same plant. To change colour, just change the soil type or fertiiser to change the balance from acidic the alkaline.

There is also a separate variety (white) that says white regardless.

I bought one (yes I know) that says it is orange/tangerine. Hasn't bloomed yet.

That was true in the past but many more hydrangea species now available. particularly popular are Japanese species. I have 3 in a row. One blue, one pink and one green. they didn't change colour.

You beat me to it re: soil ....... but just for info, we have/had a white one, and using coffee grounds (Waitrose leave them in a bin outside the store!) we've changed it to pink.
