The view from my "office"

Fantastic bottom pic - looks apocalyptic!
Thank you.

In retrospect, probably not the brightest idea to stand on the roof of a 12-storey apartment block in the middle of a thunderstorm, but the shot was worth it.

The 1812 hall of heroes includes a (very) distant relative of Mrs Oatek, and it was great to hunt him down.

Not staying at Hotel Il Monastero?

I wish.

Not open till next week.

But for a treat, I will show you the actual view from our Hotel room in Napoli, the very nice Hotel UNA.

The view was something else, but the soundscape, really something else......

However, with some luck, I might have two weeks work on Ischia in October/November.

Tsarskoe Selo (the Tsars Village) was our office this morning. It started at the Theodores Cathedral, built by Nicholas II in 1913, and badly damaged by fire during the siege of Leningrad. But thanks to donations from wealthier Russians it is being restored, and a Palm Sunday service had the church packed when we arrived.

The Tsar also built a small Kremlin to protect it, which has not yet been restored.

The Catherine Palace, built by Elizabeth the first to commemorate Katherine I.

There were many tons of gold used in the decorations.

First day back in the home office - aka paradise - after 10 weeks roaming the world. Nice supplementary scenery, too... ;):).

About to leave our St Petersburg office. This first photo reminds us that St Petersburg is built on over 40 islands, and this canal connecting the Moika to the Neva passes under a section of the Hermitage Museum, and I looked down from the bridging passage on our tour a few days earlier.

We had the great privilege of attending a Palm Sunday service in the Kazan Cathedral the previous day. The music and the spectacle of the service was very moving.
