The view from my "office"

Beautiful morning at Bate Bay, with a minke whale? & calf getting up close and personal with some scuba divers
Sorry about the poor quality. The whales circled the divers for about 10 minutes, and as the divers didn't surface I assume it was just all in fun!

Or else they were a lovely morning snack for the whales as a change from fish and krill!:)

(Photos were fine and you were lucky to see them.)

A weekend away in Simpson, VIC. Never heard of it? I am not surprised! There is absolutely nothing noteworthy there, but it provides a good base for a tour of the "12 Apostles Food Artisans Gourmet Trail". Actually, the map of the Trail shows "Simpson Snails" as a must-visit foodie place. We saw the signs to it, but never found it. Not that we were looking all that hard...

Our AirB&B accommodation: basic but functional.

The Ice Creamery was a hit with the grandchildren.

The adults were more interested in the Sow and Piglets Brewery.

The real reason for our weekend away in Simpson was to celebrate our son's birthday last week and my birthday today. Son had organised a joy flight in an old biplane!

Boarding at Peterborough Airport.

The coughpit is a bit basic, rough even.

The views over the 12 Apostles, from 500 ft, are so much better without windows!

I’ve heard of it. My Dad grew up in Terang and our holidays were spent each year travelling in the area. Beautiful part of the world.

My sister was born while we lived in Dixie ...

I am glad to hear that some people know Western Victoria so well! We certainly enjoyed touring this beautiful area with its rolling hills and expansive views. The foodie attractions provide nice breaks.

The history of the Heytesbury Forest area is interesting too. It was largely cleared for the WWII Returned Soldiers Settlement Commission with Simpson, named after Les Simpson, the first chair of the Commission, at its centre. The scheme was very successful and we can thank it for the development of large scale dairy farming in the area.

Simpson though, with just a general store, hardware store, take-away shop and motel, is not a tourist hub.

My favourite sort of office, Rally Australia, Coffs Harbour. Gravel road, 90 right onto bitumen, the WRC cars don't slide much due to their aero packages, they just squat and go. The R5 cars slide a little and the orange Subaru is totally sideways.

And who doesn't love an old RS1800 Escort, even if it's old it still worth about $180,000, the engine alone is probably $70,000!
