The view from my "office"

Yesterday we went to the newly opened (November 2020) Perth Museum - Boola Bardip ("many stories"). It was my first visit to the Perth CBD for about 2 years.

The façade - the building on the right is Hackett Hall (1913) which was once the State Library)' There are water misting sprays at the front of the building for kids to play in.

The Old Perth Gaol (1854) is in the courtyard of the new museum.

There is currently a special exhibition of Aboriginal artworks based on the "Seven Sisters" Songline. Songlines: Tracking the Seven Sisters | Western Australian Museum

The Blue Whale skeleton (stranded not hunted) was always a favourite for kids, including me when younger, visiting the old museum. It has now been placed in a 'dynamic' pose - part way through a diving turn - and suspended from the ceiling of Hackett Hall.

So over the next 2 to 3 weeks i will document the changing view at my work office.just off the front entrance there is this monstrosity.

A rarely used helipad. Locally said to have been built for a former health minister's trips to the north west.
So in all their wisdom the Health Department has commissioned an artist to paint the poles. It looks like it will be Tasmania's answer to Blue Poles judging by this morning's work.

Couldn't the helicopter just land on the ground beneath where that thing was built?
There is a huge roundabout just outside the hospital - that supposedly was built bigger so a helicopter could land in the centre !!

The amount of $$$ that has been spent on this folly !!

Yes the temporary helipad was used for over 20 years. It used to disrupt traffic but the Mersey hospital has been downgraded and only 1 helicopter flight out in the 4.5 months I have been working here.

Thanks. I’m hanging out to visit the new museum but can’t risk a trip to W.A. right now, as I’ll have to combine it with a trip to some other states and you know who probably won’t like that 😊

The yearly visit by 'foreign invaders' ( Rainbow Lorikeets) to munch on my almost ripe figs has happened. They are beautiful looking birds but it is a pity that they have become established here - apparently released/escaped in 1968. A 'declared pest' over here.
