After the walk yesterday we went to Zeehan and the local Heritage museum. Much improved since I last went 10 yrs ago and it was pretty good then.

Classic Zeehan street front - mines Museum on the right, Gaity Theatre on the left. It’s all part of the museum now.

Some steam locos, operating until about 1961. @BAM1748 May be interested.

This spot requires a bit of a hike but Mrs H had had the beach and crystal clear waters to herself:

Spotted on the hike out, this large ray that was easily one metre in diameter.

A few more office views from Tas west coast earlier this week.

Drive from Queenie to Strahan to take the Gordon River Cruise. Weather had finally broken to overcast, with some mizzle. Main drag of Queenstown:

A bit of fog in the valleys:

Cruise was good; although a bit misty, the water on the Gordon River was perfectly calm, leading to an abundance of the famous reflections. Spot the Huon Pines:

Passing through hell's Gates, entrance to Macquarie Harbour:

Much easier to spot the Huon Pines at the local sawmill, specialising in that timber:

The stockpile (most if not all recovered from Hydro empoundments). Outside to Queenstown there is a MASSIVE stash of Huon pine, recoved from the lakes. As people may know, the wood is incredibly resistant to rot. See my pic above of the 1500 year old tree growing on a 2,000 year old fallen trunk.

In the early evening we watched the play 'The Ship that Never Was' on the Strahan dockside - Australia's longest running play. This sort of small-cast, with 'audience participation' is not my cup of tea, but I have to say it was very enjoyable and very funny. It won't show up here, but it was very funny as they adapted the audience participation with Covid rules - spontaneous hand sanitising on entrance to stage, and leaving it etc ...

The cast:

Any more than two means that the audience is part of it :) . That's the pirates's parrot front left. It swore a lot.

Two kids from ?Korea, without much English were dragged up (pushed by parents :) ) and basically had no clue as to what was happening, but they manned the pumps:

These are the Irish rebels in Chile (Bernado O'Higgins etc) :)

Arrr who be a pirate, then?

We then took our coach back to Queenstown and had dinner at the old Paragon Theatre, where a movie played for us. Great time.

Definitely the comfy seats ...

Finally, a red fungi near Montezuma Falls, we called Marilyn:

Paragon Theatre
Penghana

That floor in the theatre is magnificent - what's the timber, do you know?
