The view from my "office"

People watch a concert or rehearsal. That is normal and expected behaviour. In no way is watching a concert or rehearsal like perving on kids!
Agree but some people may not want to take the risk of their actions being misconstrued.

I was quite shocked with the number of people videoing and photographing a children's concert when we were in NZ a couple of year's back - these were not their own kids but a school putting on a performance for a group of adults on a ship excursion. It is something I would never consider doing.

These walks I do alone. I am acutely aware of what many others think when they see an elderly man watching children so that is why there are no photos. For most of the time I watched I was standing next to a woman who was one of their teachers. She was delighted that I was observing the performances.
And as I said earlier, this was not about you at all. I think where problems can arise is where people are not aware of how things may be interpreted and assume that photos etc are all fine.

Did you find out what event/ceremony the rehearsal was for?

I didn’t think you were commenting about me. I have commented before that years ago both QF and VA would seat me with the unaccompanied kids or parents with very young children. I enjoyed being of help and found kids much easier to deal with than adults. Then some one complained about males sitting next to children in general and that was the end of me helping out.
As Mrsdrron would tell you I am irresistible to those under 8 or over 80. It’s just the ones in between that I have problems with.
