The view from my "office"

And yet a previous family home of 20+ years was on septic and we used t/p as per normal without issues??
MIssing the issue. Toilet Paper is designed for sewage and septic and is not "paper" as such like tissues and other forms of paper.

Lots of Italian towns have ancient seweage and septic systems that were not desigend to handle lagre amounts of (non disolving toilet) paper and clog up with normal paper.

No no. :) :) You are all mis-translating the sign. Toilet paper in toilet is fine. Any other paper such as paper towels etc is not.
The same Athens AirBnB I stayed at last year (with drainage furballs mentioned in another thread) had one of those signs. A previous client had written a review of how disgusting it was. Then the host clarified! 😂

But, yes you do wonder sometimes if it’s all paper….

Our Airbnb in Athens said 'paper' so we assumed the worst. Not pleasant.
