Back burning. It rains ash for the first 8 weeks of the dry season.

The sea breeze kicked in and cleared some of the smoke. Still very pretty:

There was a festival on at the site, so there were several (very long!) processions. First came the sweepers:

Edit for the benefit of someone: : On the way up to Dambulla Cave temples, Sri Lanka. And these are part of the reason why:

Caves cut c 1st century BC (and most of the statues are cut from the rock in situ)
