Another ramble into the history of Van Diemen's Land today and the 'convict road' (c. 1842) along the Prosser River

A tiny stone culvert and rock-lined rivulet covered by pine-forest litter







A more substantial creek crossing, beautiful ashlar sandstone.

Downstream. The buttresses look quite old, so I suspect the bridge strated bowing outwards pretty early.

After fog the day brightened up hugely. A quick trip in the boat so we could brush up on newly learned things.



Then sunset. Facing east.

And then the dolphin came back.

Today's office's were cemeteries. First the Convict's cemetery Launceston.

A bit bleak but great views.

Further along some tiles with names. Similar to Campbelltown but not as good. Will have to read my TR to see those.

Now Carr Villa the largest cemetery. With parkland it's 50 hectares. Lots of old graves, rose gardens and the crematorium.

Those 'old' cemeteries in Tasmania are fascinating. I remember wandering through the one in Ross and finding the grave of someone who had fought at the battle of Waterloo.

Little guy, Bush Stone-Curlew near Port Douglas. I couldn't capture their tall spindly legs as it wanted to hang out in the bush. Pretty shy characters, but they used to freak me out as a kid in Cairns with their haunting cry in the middle of the night.
