They've closed off one of the trendy roads for a long lunch. Lucky it wasn't Tuesday when it was blowing a gale and it's forecast for 35 on Monday.

EC217 Ulm to Prien am Chiemsee 50 minutes delayed. I expect to see Omar Sharif board the train soon. The scenery matches Dr Zhivago. The rolling stock is from the 1990's and it is crowded with absolutely pitiful luggage space.

On a much more deluxe train - the Chiemsee Bahn. It is only a 2 km ride but much easier than walking. From the HBF to the harbour. You can buy the ferry tickets and the train ticket together.

Quite a bit of snowfall overnight (and still going)........ this morning it looks quite different.

Decent fall here in Friedrichshafen, although I see today the maximum is -1 and minimum is -10 forecast. Not much of a view out over Lake Konstanz!





We're heading into the Black Forest region today though and the maximum is -4 and minimum is -14. Should be fun!

We took a ferry trip on the Chiemsee across to Herreninsel to see one of King Ludwig II's 'other' castles - Konigsschloss Herrenchiemsee. Unfortunately a light fall of snow seems to have spooked the Bavarians and the Palace and associated museums were closed as the conditions were apparently too dangerous. So we could only look from the outside. It only dropped to around -1 C and we were wearing around 5 layers of clothing and were not particularly cold. It was consistently snowing.

This was a bit more Dr Zhivago like. I almost expected Julie Christie to wander out of the woods in one of her fur coats.



Re-boarding the ferry

I think MUC airport is closed, guess they didn't quite expect this amount of snow - perhaps it's not as common in the south of Germany.

Today we stopped in Überlingen first for a wander and a coffee.

Then it was off to Löffingen for a little wander.

Finally, it was on to Weihnachtsmarkt in der Ravennaschlucht (Ravenna Gorge Christmas Market) - pre-booked tickets only, which go on sale at the beginning of Autumn and sell out pretty quick.
