The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

I just got a mystery "Velocity Direct Earn 30,000 Bonus Pts" and I cannot figure out why I got this. It was deposited by the "Freqeunt Flyer Department". The points landed on the same day that I collected the 70,000 AMEX bonus, though I think that's a coincidence.

Anyone else seen something like this?
The recent Virgin money credit offers from earlier this year, most of the earning point cards (amex included) came with a 30k bonus. I did with my flyer card.
Mine was same Direct Earn transaction same as yours.

All legit, enjoy.

Send 'em over to me & I'll have a look and see what I can tell :)

I would've sent 'em back :(

Oh I must have missed that in the card details. I just received the bonuses for both Virgin Money and the AMEX Velocity Plat cards this month

Even if you just applied for the cards and had no knowledge of this Virgin money related bonus seems you would still benefit from it. That's what appears to have occurred with yourself.

There was a link that you had to click / accept, but clearly they just gifted the bonus to all accepted and fulfilled within time period.

Great you got 2 card within this period.

Hello All,

For family pooling, is it really only point and status credits are transferred to the beneficiary? What about the eligible sector count?

Thanks! Painful to learn about this. I have enough status credits to maintain gold, and even a flight or 2 away to Platinum, but haven't flown eligible sector. :(

How much time do you have? Possible to squeeze in a flight or two?
My review date is tomorrow (30-Jun). Travels with my new work will be more likely to Asia. Booking direct with SQ rather through VA is cheaper (most if not all the time), might makes more sense to join Krisflyer instead.

Not all is lost.

Travel in the previous 365 days is taken into account daily. So if the first of the Gold retention SC's you flew was, say in September last year, then you'd have all July, August and until that date in September this year to get your four flights (or eight for WP) and any extra SCs.

It would be a new qualification with a new renew date.

Can I book a single through award itinerary using multiple partners on the same chart?

For instance, could I book SYD-DOH on QR connecting to DOH-xAUH-CDG on EY, in order to combine the best onboard products for each sector or better times and availablity?

And if it's possible to do this, do I have to call them? I can't find a way to force online search to turn up mixed-partner results.

I think SQ/EY/QR are likely to combine well for my purposes, and if going as far as Europe the 9500-15000mi band covers a lot of routings. Likewise I think NH might combine well with either SQ/AC or UA, depending on which award chart it ends up on.

Imagine you've got ~200k Velocity points burning a hole in your east coast pocket.

Where overseas would you go to get the best bang for your Velocity bucks?

Europe with QR or SQ.
I've certainly seen QR J cabin reward seats and read others findings.

Would only get 1 way in J though.

I was thinking somewhere in Asia which would get you there and back in business class. Alternatively, if you can find seats, you have enough points for two people to fly to Queenstown return in business class.

Tokyo via CNS on VA? Not a great product but good bang for your points.
How much would you value lounge entry, at an int airport of departure?
CNS, no lounge, and their (VA)'s version of J.
HND, no lounge, and "business is not available", or their (VA)'s version of J.
