The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

Velocity can in principle be used on United, if there's availability. In what respect does the website say "no"? Is it just that you can't choose the specific origin and destination together? Because there's a hack for that. Let me find the right post.
Thank you 😊 I was testing looking for domestic reward seats from SFO to ORD, a flight we booked with QFF points pretty easily, and wanted to see how easy it was on the Velocity website. No matter the date, there seemed to no flights available at all - hence my interpretation of ‘no’

That worked, thanks! 👍

Trying to book a same day return…anywhere…to get to gold, but VA simply won’t let me do it.
Anyone else had this problem?
I’ve tried on laptop, phone, tablet and desktop.

Hi all... if i've already reached the required SC by my review date, will any additional SC i earn before the review date count towards next years review? Or will they be wiped clean at this years review?

Been a while since I have hung out around here. Just redeemed some points flights for domestic (seem they're on alliance no less). Since when does VA charge a carrier surcharge for points redemptions?

Fare AUD 0.00
Taxes/Fees/Carrier-Imposed Charges
AUD 8.63 UO2 (NOTIONAL TAXES)
AUD 14.36 WG (SAFETY AND SECURITY CHARGE DEPARTURE)
AUD 25.96 QR (PASSENGER SERVICE CHARGE DOMESTIC DEPARTURE )
AUD 25.96 QR2 (PASSENGER SERVICE CHARGE DOMESTIC ARRIVAL)
AUD 20.00 YRI (Service Fee - Carrier-Imposed MISC)

Wiped clean spotless.
You have the required sectors?

Review date day 1 back off scatch.

As above, they will be wiped clean on the review date, but virgin have 2 to 4 weeks of ‘review’ before they officially post your new status. Any SCs earned during the review period will count for the new year.

Hi all,

I’ve noticed that an upcoming flight of mine seems to have been changed due to a schedule change (I presume for the Easter holidays). My original flight has been cancelled and I’ve been rebooked onto an earlier flight.

I’d like to change the flight they’ve rebooked me onto, however I haven’t received an email from Virgin notifying me of the change yet. Can I ring them to change the flight or do I need to wait for this email? The schedule change happened about a week ago and the flight is on 31 March.

I had a flight change recently, NAN to MEL, was direct and was changed to via SYD. I noticed it in the app, no email, I called Velocity right away and got it changed to what suited us better.
No probs.

There should be a message like below in your booking on app.

Give them a buzz with details on what your want the flights changed to.
VA change so it's a free change.

Hi all,

Im a long time QFF Platinum and am now flying weekly SYD-PER return and looking at VA due to company policies. How would i go about requesting a status match from VA?

Cheers

There is a Discover Gold on virgin Australia velocity website somewhere.

Where you'll need to send in your QF card provider and recent flying pattern. On Velocity approval you get 3 months off gold where by to attain 80SCs within that period.

Now as your flying syd-PER weekly you'll smash it in.
In fact you'll want WP virgin status whereby giving you the economy X legroom comfort for the trans cont trips.
Plus the 4 comp upgrades to J which you'll use cos they beneficial on longer trips.

Anyone know if Velocity Plats receive a checked baggage allowance on Etihad Sale fares that only include 7kg carry on? TIA

Hi everyone. I’m very new to the whole frequent flyers, miles and points. I just have this question I can’t seem to figure out, if anyone can help explain that’ll be much appreciated!

I currently have 40,000 velocity points. I’m planning to fly to johannesburg South Africa 24th July 2024. Using seats.aero the only flights that are available for cheap points is Etihad for 42,500 points. Is it possible to use my velocity points to book this flight? If so, how? The flight does not appear on virgin website nor does it appear on Etihad. Seats.aero however, tells me I can book it through American Airlines. But when I try, I can’t seem to find anywhere where I can use my velocity points?

Since you have Velocity points, take a look at the velocity website to see what Airlines are partners and that fly to your destination so you know how you can potentially use your 40k points.

Then use the velocity website or app to see what fights available, remembering when in search of reward seats, best to have ample flexibility of dates especially when within few months like July your looking for.

For Jdchan, most likely you have to phone either VA up, or EY up to make a booking.
That is probably a one way number of points, and most likely in whY.
If Seat.aero shows it, and when you phone them up, they confirm the routing exist, it will be a long way up to AUH, and then down again to JNB.
If SQ flies this routing, maybe go with them, and put your points earn to VFF, increase your balance, and fly elsewhere, for a holiday.

Just had a look, SQ does fly SQ478 from SIN to JNB, dep at 3.15am and arr at 7.26am SA time.

Hey, been here a little bit now but looking at booking my first real international reward flight using points (done a couple of domestic ones with no trouble).
Looking at Europe in May, to either CDG or GVA ex BNE, for two adults and a two year old child. I can find flights very easily for one or two of us with QR via DOH, but searching all three brings nothing. Yet I can search both at once and likely book them to get all three of us there under two separate bookings .
My question: is it likely to be a problem doing it as two separate bookings and then just try to sit together? I'd hate for us to be separated for a 13+hr BNE-DOH flight as the two year old wouldn't do well for that length of time without both of us.
For context, I have VA WP status (and all the points in my name) but my two travelling partners are all mere Reds, if that complicates things more. Just happy with Y to get there as I don't have the points for all of us to go J.

Long shot but thought I might ask....

I currently have VA Gold and Amex Plat, is there any chance I can guest 2 people in based on the two different accesses? i.e. 1 for Gold and 1 for Amex?
