The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

I apologise if this has been discussed before, I couldn't find it via search.

On Friday 12 April, I had 999 SC in my Velocity account (i.e. 1 SC from Platinum).

That day, I took a work business flight from MEL to ADL, earning 55 SC.

That flight has still not posted in my Velocity account.

Today (Monday 15 April) I had 105 SC expire due to the 365 day calculation. They dropped out of my account at midnight on Tuesday 16 April. My account is now showing as 894 SC.

When the flight from last Friday finally posts on my account, how will my SC be calculated:

(i) from the day the flight took place - I will be Platinum, having earned 1054 SC to 12 April 2024; or
(ii) from the day it ultimately posts - I will be Gold, having earned 949 SC in the 365 days

Would be interested in hearing from any others that have experienced this, and whether it would be worth a call to Velocity if it is the latter situation.

Hello, newbie to virgin velocity and had a few questions regarding reward seats availability and points transfers.

I realise that family pooling requires all members to be at the same residential address, but what about straight transfers only? There was an old post last year saying it's not necessary (ala Qantas family transfers) but that was a month before the spate of account suspensions a month after and someone in the first page said Virgin also limits transfer to strictly family living at the same address even without using pooling.

With regards to reward availability for SQ seats on velocity, does SQ have separate buckets for their own Krisflyer award seats and alliance partners? If Saver seats are available on Krisflyer but not on Velocity would Virgin customer service be able to access those seats or impossible? Couldn't tell from older posts here and here.
Also if the route I was looking up on Velocity 330 days out already has no SQ reward seats available, does that mean they're booked out or there will be more released later maybe?

Thanks.

Hi all,
How do I book rewards seats and paid seats at the same time? I have enough points for two one-way flights from Syd to London but 3 or 4 will be travelling.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Gomez

The reward seats and paid seats will be on different tickets. Have you considered your route and connection point? For example, you could book 2 reward seats to London and pay for the others. Or you may be able to book 4 reward seat to Singapore return and then pay for the Singapore to London return. In the second instance, leave plenty of time or Overnight in Singapore because of the seperate tickets. You have lots of options, but depends on points, rewards availability, cash prices of flights etc.

It appears that with family transfers the donor and the recipient must live at the same address.

This is not what I had believed, but basically the definition used for eligibility is the same as for family polling.

This seems to happen at QF not irregularly but I’m wondering if anyone’s been moved from their selected seat as a VA WP.

For my MEL - CBR later this week, I had selected 4A when I booked the flight in January. Checked today and I had been moved to 3D, with all Economy X window seats filled up (including my original seat). Online check in hadn’t opened yet.

Anyone else had this happen? A VA Beyond member request? Obviously it’s not the end of the world but I’m just curious how / why this might have occurred.

Don’t recall this happening in many dozens of flights in the golden triangle, when I’m usually in row 4 (and often just about the only person with a vacant seat next to me). I choose the seat as soon as it’s ticketed too.

At least you still got the aisle seat.
So far, I have not been moved yet, not with VA.
But had been with QF, from J window on the 330 AKL - BNE to aisle in the middle.
Just because I was late to do OLCI.
Rev fare.
Not happy!

Hi All, It's been sometime since I was last looking at achieving Platinum status, and I was hoping that one of the more experienced members could help to clarify how things work.

I've already met the criteria to maintain Gold status for next year, ahead of my 30-June review date. With the travel planned between now and the end of June I'll be at around 800 status credits and 200 short of the 1000 target for Platinum.

Looking at the Velocity website it's showing the number of points remaining to achieve Platinum. When I click on the "How far are you from upgrading" link, it shows that my points don't reset on review date but rather are calulated on a rolling 12 month basis. In fact the page shows that only 7 status points drop off and expire by the 14-Jan next year, as i didn't take any flights in the latter patr of last year.

I've spoken to Velocity customer service but I don't kbow that they understood my query, because the responces they gave were a bit inconsistant.

My question is, do I need to hit the 1000 Platimum target before my review date, in a year I've already maintained Gold? Or are the status points actually running on a rolling 12 months and I only need to hit 1000 in that rolling 12 month period? The answer would be helpful because if I need to hit by 30-June review date then I have to decide if paying out of pocket for a 200 point status run is worth it!

Thanks in advance, Neil M

Pretty sure it's this.
Thanks Kerfuffle, I thought so myself but it's good to have a second opinion. If it's the case then I can avoid a status run as I'm likely the earn to required remaining 200 status points naturally over the rest of the year.

VFF do not use Status ((points)).
Status credits is what you need.
And it better than QFF in that its indeed a rolling cycle than a fixed date or month.
So if you can get 400 Status Credits asap, that s when you get VFF WP.
The get to keep that for next 12 months.

Barring a significant quantity of unplanned travel in the next six weeks, I will fail to requalify for Velocity Platinum. I understand I will soft-land to Gold, but my question is: Would I then start with the requalification target of 400 SCs or go back to needing 500 SCs?

Well it appears that it is not uncommon at times for SQ Saver availability doesn't mean it will be available on VA.
I am looking at flying BNE - SIN next April. until the first week in April if there were saver awards on KF there were VA awards. But since then very few for the 67000 points in J award on VA though plenty still available on KF for the same dates.
Usually with KF if saver awards are gone they are gone. Many a day looking for saver awards in past years didn't suggest they released more later on.
As a very red person I doubt me ringing would achieve anything.
