The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

Yes no issues in that regard. I've had work TA book before and was able to instantly call and upgrade, just need to wait for it to be ticketed which sometimes takes a bit longer when booked via Amex.
Great to know. Thanks!

Hi all...

My partner and I used seats.aero to help us with booking some flights for our honeymoon to Japan next year. So far, have the BNE-KIX booked, but not the return. We are flying Cathay Pacific in business via HKG and paid 104k points per person.

I have an Amex business platinum card so can transfer points to either QFF or VA. I have around 700k points atm which works out to be around 350k QFF/VA points once converted.

Thinking of shooting for 2 seats in business on ANA with my Velocity account (NRT/HND to BNE) but nothing seems to have opened up yet for November for them...

What is my best approach to this? I cannot see any openings at all for bookings on the Virgin site yet. I know people here have said Virgin has better availability to Asia and at lower costs, but I haven't seen that yet. I've also heard getting 2 seats in business can be rather difficult...

Any tips or advice for nabbing these?

Can I book Aust-DOH-Europe on one ticket using points via the guest contact centre? Can't do it on-line, it appears.

What’s not working online?

I can search and see options.

Expired Velocity Points - newbie asks for advice
HI All,
New to the forum and inexperienced with Velocity FF program.
I had 156,850 Velocity points expire on 2nd OCT 2024.
I had received an email advice from AwardWallet advising that these points would expire 18/11/24. So I logged into my Velocity account online and verified that the previous activity was an addition of 14,437 points on 18/11/22 from Loyaltyco.
I figured - incorrectly - that this activity meant that I had to add points activity before expiry on 18/11/24 - which I did on 03/10/24 via a Flybuys transfer.
Unfortunately the activity on/from 18/11/22 through the addition of 14,437 points by Loyaltyco is not deemed to be a qualifying activity by the Velocity program even though it is listed as an activity on the Velocity statements.
There was no indication that the points addition on 18/11/22 was not a qualifying activity on the statement.
So, my points expired. I have sought to have the points re-instated due to the confusing activity on 18/11/22 by corresponding directly with the CEO of Velocity - with no response nor any reply.
Does anyone have any advice as to what I can do to try and have these expired points re-instated - or is it a lost cause due to my confusion as to what constitutes a qualifying activity.
I await anyone's helpful advice.
Many thanks and Happy Christmas.

I would be reading this page closely! Do Velocity Points expire?

It makes is clear that a single point in, or a single point out is all you need to stop points expiring.

Based on that page alone, I’d say you have a good case.

I would screenshot that page today and have it. Worst case you could lodge a case with VCAT/NCAT or whatever the consumer tribunal is in your state. That page is pretty compelling evidence!

Hi there, hoping for some clarity or guidance on how different status levels are treated on a booking together.

As in, if I’m Gold and my partner is Silver or Red, is our booking treated at the lowest level or the highest?

If on same booking, all treated same as highest status holder. I.e. access to seat selection is a per highest status holder on the booking, and all bags get tagged priority, not that it makes a difference!

If I book an Etihad flight through Etihad directly and add my Etihad Guest FF number, will I still be able to access first class lounges when I show my VA Platinum card? Or will I need to link my VA Platinum FF number to the booking instead of Etihad Guest? Cheers in advance.

Showing card is fine, have done it several times
