As we approach another First Friday of the Month, what are people thinking about this month's offerings?

The Glenfarclas Oloroso Sherry Casks 2012 Vintage looks like a good safe bet for a nice whisky.

I'll be opting-in for the Benriach Smoke Season, which I expect to be right up my ally.

Just need to decide - go for both? go for 2 x Benriach? Hmm, decisions, decisions.
I'll be taking your lead on this. Anything in a sherry cask or anything by Benriach has my vote. An easy choice.

Indeed, but do be aware that the Benriach is likely to be quite different to others from the same heritage. Its described as their most peated whisky yet - think along the lines of Laphroaig, which is what I am looking forward to. So the Glenfarclas and the Benriach will be very different in style, which for me highlights what I like about the variation in whisky.

I'm an opt out this month. I think you can shop around for a more aged Glenfarclas for a few extra bucks.

For $250 delivered, the Nicks 25yo Glenfarclas is the deal to do imo.

Also for the peat lovers, they've got a good price on the Lagavulin 16.

This is how I've played my whiskey money this month.
The Lagavulin 16yo is certainly a great whisky and $140 is a reasonable price for it. But I have one in my cabinet already, so happy to go for the Benriach for $115 as an add-in this month for something a little more unique. I expect your Glenfarclas 25yo will be amazing - enjoy!!

I'm generally not a big fan of peated whiskey, but I figured its always worth having one around for friends. I've previously had the Smoky 10 and Smoky 12 and still found them enjoyable. It'll be great to try it alongside the Glenfarclas and the PX Benriach cask edition that I've got in the cupboard.

What did you get?
Not a lot. Compared prices at shop with DMs on current exchange rates. High taxes on spirits in UK and useless to try to claim VAT refunds. So just a 750 bottle of the 105, 4 bottles of the 75Cl size set - 10, 12, 15 and 105, 4 small single shot bottles and two bottles of their marmalade. I would have bought a 21, my favourite, but they aren’t making that at the moment, even though older stock is available from DMs. Considered the 25 and 15 but we’re cheaper at DMs. I also have a few other bottles from Edradour and birthday gift from friend in Edinburgh who works for Diagio. Suitcases are getting too heavy. ( plus Mrs has hundreds of KGS of chocolates from the Highland Chocolatier.:) )

Nice little stash. Of course, some of those drams may not make it back to Australia ;). I have not sampled the 105 - I'll have to keep an eye open for an opportunity.

PS. you might want to check the bottle volumes on some of those. I think a full-size bottle from Glenfarclas is 700ml / 70cl. And I expect the multi-bottle sets was 75ml (7.5cl), otherwise its going to be a heavy load to return home. I hope you were not short-drammed

Did everyone here double up on the Bushmills like everyone else?
Just a single for me. Whisky closet is running out of space ;). If the BenRiach Smoke Season was still available as an add-in I might have been tempted for add that one to the order.

Has anyone got the Starward Maple cask referral bottle?

Bit disappointed as I was expecting it today but got a 50ml bottle of Loch Lomond 12 instead.

The referral drams, including the Starwood Maple Cask, are always shipped a month behind. So if your referred member joins and buys in the October monthly orders, then you will receive your gift bottle with your November shipment. The 50ml dram you received will be from a referred member who became an active member prior to the October monthly orders.

You can look at your account on-line and view what is held in your shipping card ready for the next delivery. Mine shows the promotion gift there ready for November deliver from referred members who bought the October monthly whisky.
