we do if we are going to game reserves in Africa. Where I can I will still draw local currency from an ATM to use as tips, but for e,g, on our last trip we flew from Kigali in Rwanda to our game reserve in Tanzania by light plane. We cleared immigration at some little border post and never went anywhere near a bank or ATM. I needed around US$2,000 for tips for those camps and had probably started out with about double that in US$.
My eyes water at the thought of paying any “tips” let alone 2 Grand!

I usually leav my passport and a little foreigh cash in my overhead bag but will no longer be doing that after these posts. I was also thinking if the undeseat storage is safer, but what happens if you have to use the facilities. It seems the message here is to keep valuables with you at all times or in a secure locked bag.
I always put passport, cash and credit cards in the little alcove under the armrest in my seat and if its time for a toilet break then it all comes with me as there is never any good excuse to leave a (possibly nefarious) stranger looking after your property when flying into a foreign country.

I sat in the VA lounge in SYD the other evening and left iPad, phone (charging) and briefcase all on the bench. Used bathroom, got beer and returned. Somewhere in my poor addled mind this was OK

It's probably not but...........

My bag is currently unattended in the SYD SQ Lounge. I do have my passports and wallet with me.
