Just got an email from Qantas to say that the Toolbar will no longer work after 31 August.

Just got an email from Qantas to say that the Toolbar will no longer work after 31 August.

Same here, the email appears to have gone out en Masse at approximately 6am this morning.

I must admit while the toolbar had it annoyances where it used to mysteriously disappear from screen every once in a while, and then needed to be reinstalled, the toolbar was a nice little points earner each month.

At least the points earning capabilities have now increased with the Qantas Assure App to help offset this loss of points.

I guess the third party cost of providing the facility began to outweigh the cost of points earned.

Actually I am not surprised it's going. I often forgot to use it (as I need to open Mozilla) but when I did it was money for jam even though it was a tiddly amount of points earned.

Well there goes an easy 150 points per month...

I won't really miss the toolbar as I only used it to earn the points, then switched it off after reaching 150 each month. But it was an easy way to keep inactive accounts alive.

I don't understand how QF actually made any money from this. They made no secret about the fact that they collected information about our searches for marketing purposes, but I don't recall ever seeing any marketing based on my toolbar searches.

I assumed Bing/Microsoft was paying for it, the same way the banks pay for QF points? The error/non qualifying search page was Bing branded and made me think that QF's effort was part of a broader program.

If they'd used Google as the search rather than the excuse-for-a-search-engine known as Bing, I may have used it routinely. Bing is the biggest steaming pile of excrement a search engine has ever known.

I mainly used it to keep the kids accounts active, as they no longer were receiving points through Woolworths. I'll need to set a reminder to keep an eye on the smallest ones account.

Phew, for a second I thought this was the Bing qantas search thingy.

Isn't there a big difference between bing and the Qantas frequent flyer toolbar which is used to search for fares?
