Thinking of giving Brisbane Hilton another try. What are the upgraded rooms like?

I travel to Brisbane for work about once a month on average. For the past year or so I've been staying at The Emporium Hotel in the Valley. It started off being a bit funky, boutique and a very comfortable small hotel. But after a dozen stays there I'm getting a bit tired of the place - there are a lot of staff standing behind the reception desk (except on weekends and public holidays) but not many people to carry your bags, the gym is small (OK, I've used it once...) and the trip into and out of the city if I need to be at the office has become a bit of a pain.

The Brisbane Marriott used to be my preferred business hotel in Brisbane but now the location is not much better than The Emporium in terms of proximity to the office. I've also tried the Sofitel once but was not impressed. So I was thinking of giving the Brisbane Hilton another try. The last time I stayed there a few years back I wasn't left with a very good impression. The rooms seemed dated, particularly the bathroom with the shower curtain! And the executive floor lounge seemed pretty cramped compared to some of the other hotels that I've stayed at.

I read on TripAdviser that they have started refurbishing some rooms and I was wondering whether any AFF members have stayed in one of the upgraded rooms and, if so, what they were like? Should I give the Hilton another try?

I stopped travelling (I retired) two years ago so it is a while since I stayed at the Hilton. When I was travelling to Brisbane (sometimes twice a month) it was where I stayed. I do know that the Executive floor has been upgraded and is now on the 25th floor (on the river side). I think I got to stay in one of the upgraded rooms - can't really remember, so won't comment. I made some great friends in the Executive Club - one couple in particular "lived" at the Hilton (in between OS trips!) and they visited us in Adelaide during the V8's. They sere saying that the General Manager has moved down to Melbourne and the new GM was making some very positive changes. The last one was definitely chasing margin, and the staff were not happy.
If I was travelling back to Brisbane I'd give it a go - atleast once and if no good, don't go back again.
